Larry Morrison

Larry Lee Morrison, 88, of Sylvania, passed away on November 20, 2024. He was born April 12, 1936, in Maumee, to Maynard and Fern (Mohr) Morrison. After graduating from Anthony Wayne High School, he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in education at Bowling Green State University, followed by an education specialist degree at the University of Toledo.

Larry had an extensive career in education, teaching at Anthony Wayne, Washington Local, and Sylvania City Schools; also coaching baseball, football, and basketball. He was an assistant principal at Burnham Junior High and Sylvania High School, before becoming principal at Arbor Hills Junior High and Sylvania Northview High School. He was inducted into both the Anthony Wayne and Sylvania City Schools Hall of Fame. Larry was awarded the Mac Morrison Lifetime Service Award for leadership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association, and he was Commissioner for the Great Lakes League (1990-2003) and the Northern Lakes League (2001-2015). He worked to honor alumni and raise funds through the Sylvania Schools Foundation.

Larry was very involved in the community as a member of Sylvania Rotary, Sylvania Township Park Board, and the American Cancer Society State Golf Committee; also serving as congregation president and chairing the building committee at Olivet Lutheran Church.

Larry is survived by Marcia (Pickles) Morrison, his wife of 65 years; daughter, Julie Morrison (Bill Krynski); daughter, Jamie (Chris) Gilts; his grandsons, Alex and Ian Krynski, and Jacob and Josh Gilts; and his brother, Don (Mary) Morrison. He is preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Joyce Bucher and Donna Ingle.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 2nd, at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 North Main Street, Sylvania, Ohio 43560, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 3rd, at Olivet Lutheran Church, 5840 Monroe Street, Sylvania, Ohio 43560, at 11:00 a.m., with an hour of visitation prior to the service, and a luncheon immediately following. Those who wish to join the funeral procession through the cemetery are welcome, though the graveside service is reserved for family.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish to honor Larry's memory, his wishes were for a contribution to Sylvania Schools Foundation, 4747 North Holland Sylvania Road, Sylvania, Ohio; Olivet Lutheran Church; Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 East River Road, Perrysburg, 43551; or a charity of your choice.

Larry Morrison was my phys.ed. teacher when I was in 7th grade @
Washington Jr. High. When I was hired in Sylvania in `72 he recognized my name. Incredible memory, our paths crossed numerous times over 50-60 years. What a fine, classy gentleman, true role model.
We need more people like Larry.

My Deepest Condolences to Mrs.Morrison and family,
Larry was always nice & professional to me as a young Black Basketball Official over 35 years ago and was very vital in me being selected to work Ohsaa Basketball Tournament Games over my career and always assigned me games in both of his leagues (GLL& NLL) and always respected me for my community involvement in NW Ohio and treated me as a human being as well as becoming friends over the years. Rest in Peace Larry
