Dr. Robert V.



Dr. Robert V. Shuff, third of ten children born to Harvey and Goldie (Morris) Shuff, passed away at his home in Hot Springs, AR on May 30, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of forty-one years, Marian; his son, Robert Jr.; as well as two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his former wife, June Bancroft Shuff; his sons, James and Douglas; daughters, Sheri Duncan and Mary Jo Murphy; "bonus" children, Annie and Walter Stromquist; three brothers and two sisters, ten grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.

Born in Toledo, Ohio where he graduated from Woodward High School (Hall of Fame), University of Toledo (B.Ed.); as well as Washington State University (M.Ed.), and the University of Minnesota (Ph.D.). He was a teacher and coach in Michigan, Iowa, and Alaska, becoming a superintendent of schools in Alaska and Montana. He was a National Science Fellow in Mathematics at the University of Minnesota. He was a professor at Rutgers before becoming Professor and Department Chair at Eastern Illinois University until retirement. He exerted influence on the University through two terms as faculty Senate chairman. He began Eastern Education Journal, still published as the University's official journal.

Retiring to Arkadelphia, Arkansas, he was active in community (County Water Association) and political affairs. Theatre became an obsession, and he acted on Henderson University stage and with Arkadelphia Little Theatre.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge, Phi Delta Kappa, and NEA, each for fifty-plus years, as well as Theta Alpha Phi, Delta Chi, Arkadelphia Brotherhood, Rotary, and the Democratic Party.
