Robert Thorley Obituary
Robert James Thorley, 94, died July 7, 2021 at the Willamette Lutheran Retirement Center, Keizer, Oregon. He was born January 28, 1927 to Raymond and Mildred Thorley in Toledo, Ohio. He served in the Navy near the end of WWII. A 1950 graduate of the College of Pharmacy, University of Toledo, he retired from The Toledo State Hospital Pharmacy in 1987. Following retirement, he and wife, Nancy, became flea market dealers for many years. Bob enjoyed writing short stories, especially through the Writers Workshop classes at Owens Community College, and continuing after his move to Oregon. Many of his writing were published. He and Nancy relocated to Oregon in 2009. Gradually, diminished hearing and vision impacted his life and activities.
Bob was predeceased by his parents and sister, Jayne Ferner. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Nancy; daughter, Jo Anna Jablo {Howard}, Salam, OR.; granddaughter, Caroline Ramoz {Eric}, Bend OR; and great-grandsons, Todd and Hank Ramoz. The family gives thanks to Serenity Hospice and Grace Nursing Center, WLRC for their care in his final days. Per his wishes, there will be no services held. The body will be cremated.

Are any of us truly prepared for the death of someone we deeply loved? Whether that loved one is taken quickly or lingers for a long time, death grabs and goes in a breathless moment. Some deaths are more gracious than others. Some deaths are more gruesome. But in the end, there is always an absence.
And it is the essence of that absence which separates the living from the dead. The great mysteries of death will never be fully understood until everything is known.
Uncle Bob seemed to have a quiet and gentle knowledge of the unseen and unspoken mysteries of this world. His pharmacological skills of the healing arts brought relief and comfort to probably hundreds or maybe thousands of people during his lifetime.
There is no doubt that he will be missed! Much love and very sincere sympathy to Aunt Nancy and the family.
