Sam MARASCALCO Obituary

MARASCALCO, Dr. Sam A. was born on September 27, 1919, to Italian immigrant parents. Growing up in Mississippi along with eight brothers and sisters, he developed a life-long love of fishing, hunting, and gardening. Against the backdrop of World War II, he attended Northwestern University, graduated from dental school, and joined the war effort as a captain in the Army Dental Corps from 1944 to 1946. While he was stationed in Hawaii, Sam met a beautiful civilian nurse, Anne, who became his wife for 65 years. Together they raised eight children, Jane and Gerard, who preceded them in death, Steve, Suzanne, Casey, Paul, Sarah and Angela. He is Grandpa Sam to 19 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After the war, Dr. Marascalco practiced dentistry in Grenada, MS, and from 1955 to 1989, in Tucson, AZ. He was instrumental in establishing St. Elizabeth of Hungary Dental Clinic and worked there as a volunteer dentist during the years he maintained his professional practice and well into retirement. A devoted Catholic, he was an active parishioner at St. Cyril of Alexandria where he loved to attend mass frequently and serve in the community. Sam leaves to his posterity an exemplary legacy accentuated by hard work, devotion to God and religion, care for the poor and needy, and graciousness towards all. He was a man of integrity and honor. We will miss him. Visitation will be held at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, Sunday, February 5, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at St. Cyril's church, Monday, February 6, 2017 at 10:30 a.m.

There are no words to express the kindness and generosity of Dr. Sam's soul, he was truly a saint among us. I had the pleasure of assisting him at St. Elizabeth Clinic in the early 80's. To Dr. Sam's friends, family, and loved one's I extend my most heartfelt condolences.

I just heard about Dr. Sam today. So sorry to have missed the services. All day I've been thinking about what a huge part of my life he was! Some of my fondest memories were due to him, his home was my second home for many years. Sarah... remember 4-H, the garden, Alpine, San Diego, Dago burgers, horses, fishing at Patagonia (he cleaned and cooked all those blue gills we caught)...SO many memories! I regret not staying in touch over the years, and I am sorry. What I remember most now is how quiet he was, a man of few words. I've always remembered "boys will be boys" or "girls will be girls". I never saw him angry, though I'm sure I gave him reason to be on more than a few occasions! He was a great man. Steve, Sue, Casey, Paul, Sarah, Angela, considering the circumstances, I hope you are all happy and well and that life has been kind to you. Sarah, if you'd like to reconnect, call me. I would LOVE to hear from you. 520-256-3424, I live in Vail. God bless.

Saddened to see the passing of Dr. Sam. Worked with him when I worked for Dental Prosthetics in the early 70's. One of the kindest professional men I've met!

Dr. Sam and his beautiful wife Anne were loving, kind and exceptional Christian people. As a young child I lost my mother, and the Marascalcos, with warm-hearted acceptance, invited me to join in their family activities; including summer vacations. I experienced many wonderful family trips thanks to their generosity. As I grew older, got married and had children, they remained important in my life. In fact, they're included in my family wedding photo, along with my maid of honor and lifelong friend, Angie Marascalco. This seemed very natural because they were and still are family to me. They continued to support me by attending my children's birthday parties, christenings, first communions, etc. I always felt their love and will always remember them both with the utmost affection and respect. My love and prayers go out to the Marascalco family. God bless you all. Love, Kathy
