Richard Walsh Obituary

Richard "Dick" Prescott Walsh of Laconia passed away peacefully at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Concord on Jan. 4, 2021, after a period of declining health. He was 73.

Dick was born in Manchester on Sept. 6, 1947, to William A. and Kathleen (Burpee) Walsh Jr. He graduated from Springfield College with a degree in Community Leadership. He was the former director at the 4-H Center in Manchester, and worked for a period at the Manchester Children's Home. For many years, he ran his own business, building and refinishing furniture, dealing with antiques and oriental rugs, and as an auctioneer. Dick was an outdoor enthusiast who loved fishing, hiking, climbing, skiing, swimming and enjoyed teaching skills to children.

Richard is survived by his father; his brother, William A. Walsh III and his wife, Jeanette, of South Carolina; his sisters, Marguerite Walsh and her husband, Harry Umen, and Kathleen W. Deady and her husband, William, both of Manchester; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his mother, who died in 2002.

There are no services at this time. A celebration of life will be held with family and friends in the spring or summer.

I worked with Richard at 4-H many years ago; I still remember him as a wonderful mentor who was always kind and someone who inspired me to learn more about nature.

Dick was a kind guy. My wife and I worked with Dick many many years ago at Manchester Children's Home. Too young. Rest in peace Dick.
