Joan Patricia Gaffney Price
Joan Patricia (Gaffney) Price passed away peacefully on November 7, 2023. Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Family, faith and friends were the heart and soul of her being. After raising six children, Joan embarked on a wonderful career spanning 18 years at Freddie Mac Corp. She brought love, devotion and vibrancy to everything she did. Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, James Francis Price. She is survived by her six children, Mary Joan Shea (Jim), James F. Price, Jr. (Rachel), Judy Kettl, (Dave), Stephen Price (Robin), Michael Price and Jane (Jenny) Price-Smith (Greg) as well as her 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to Joan's Celebration of Life at KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD, on Thursday, November 16, 2023, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Piscataway Our Lady's Chapel, 13401 Piscataway Rd., Clinton, MD 20735 on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to either Catholic Charities USA at www.catholiccharitiesusa.org or the Smile Train at https://www.smiletrain.org . Online guestbook is available at

Aunt Joan was a special person who touched many lives. In the summer of 1997 a high school student of mine got the opportunity to meet Aunt Joan. We stayed with her and Uncle Jimmy for a few days while we explored Washington. Last spring I met this former student, and her family, in Arizona for a day. One of the things she wanted to talk about was meeting Aunt Joan. Forty-six years after meeting her she wanted me to know how caring, approachable and nice Aunt Joan was to her. She went on to say she has always tried to emulate these traits and hoped people have felt as comfortable around her as she did around Aunt Joan.
