Dear Mark´s family, friends and loved ones,
I was so deeply saddened to learn of Mark´s untimely passing.
Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this incredibly difficult time.
Although we may have gone our separate ways many moons ago, the memories and moments we shared at FHHS will forever hold a special place in my heart.
While Mark was not only a great athlete, and captain of the football team senior year, he was also always up for a good time with a playful and infectious spirit.
Mark could also be very caring, tender and kind.
He was bravely there for me during some rough moments in our young lives.
Fortunately, we got to reconnect a little bit at our 30th class reunion and it felt good to be able to express our good and loving times together.
Lastly, we enjoyed a lot of good times and particularly music together,
from Neil Young to NRBQ to Jackson Brown.
I´ve been listening to "Comes A Time" all day today.
Here were some of our favorites from that album:
Goin´ Back
Comes a Time
Peace of Mind
Four Strong Winds
These songs could not feel more bittersweet and poignant right now.
May we all find comfort in the memories and the love and the many deep friendships shared.
Thank you Mark McILwee for all of the above, from the bottom of my heart.
You are so loved and will be dearly missed.

My condolences to Mark´s family and friends. Mark was one of those guys that was like a magnet. You wanted to be near him. He had a great smile and laugh and was so handsome. A great athlete at FHHS and was a fixture on "the wall". We would walk by and yell his name. He´s a mainstay in my memory. He will be missed. I wish him peace and I wish all of us comfort in these days ahead. Rest in peace friend.

I saw Mark weekly at the gym out in Landmark for many years. We went to elementary through high school together. He worked out regularly and we always visited when we were both there. Mark was a great guy and I will miss him forevermore.

Mark: You were a great friend for so many years. It all started back at Waynewood playing little league basketball on the Pat's Market team with coach Simpson, then fast forward to our time at ODU, Virginia Beach, my wedding, then back to Fort Hunt High School reunions over the years. Rest in peace brother, you were a great friend and someone we all could count on.
I wish I could be at your memorial service, and you know I would be, but Mindy and I are on a trip down in South Florida and just found out this morning from Greg Cox.
