I was a teammate of Mike's on the plebe baseball team. I was cut in my sophomore year. Mike, of course, went on to star for Navy. At each reunion I attended, as soon as Mike saw me, he rushed over and made me feel like I was his favorite celebrity. That's the kind of guy and leader he was. I lived in Arlington, VA. for 8 years, and one of his teammates mentioned, years later, that Mike hit two home runs against a local DC team, the best game of his Navy career, on that field. I got a foul ball in a perfect game at the field, which was located across the street from where I lived, 25 yards away. I held onto that ball. Coincidence? You bet. That ball is now a trophy on my book case in honor of Mike. It was an honor to be his classmate and teammate at Annapolis, and most importantly, his friend.
