Mr. Philip A. Whynot, age 60, passed away unexpectedly on August 29,2025 in the Village of Ilion.
Phil was born in Rumford, Maine on February 24, 1965, the youngest son of Merwyn and Florence Whynot (Andrews). He graduated from Mexico high school in Maine and then went on to serve his country by joining the Army. After his time in the Army, Phil moved to New York. Phil attended college at MVCC and held two associates degrees. Phil shared the past 34 years with the love of his life, Tammy Klein. Together they shared 8 pets who were like children to them.
Phil was an electrician by trade and worked for Burrows Paper Mill, Hood Dairy and then began his career working for the Village of Ilion. Phil worked for the village for 20 years; he was proud of his accomplishment of becoming a lineman and the foreman for the Village of Ilion Electric Department. He developed a deep camaraderie with his co-workers, who were like family to him.
Phil loved running, most recently he ran his 16th Boilermaker and ran a marathon in Maine for his 50th Birthday. He took great pride in his home; he loved doing home projects. Phil also enjoyed canning and cooking. He often tried new recipes and made the best biscuits and apple pie. He grew much of his own food in his garden. Phil was a genuine prankster with a goofy sense of humor that showed in his trademark smirk and infectious laugh. Phil was famously frugal; he loved a good bargain. Phil loved watching forensic files. He was a proud Celtics, Patriots and Red Socks fan.
Phil is preceded in death by his parents, Tammy’s parents Jean and Robert Klein and her step-father Louis. He is also preceded in death by Tammy’s brothers Bob and Eric as well as their beloved dogs Oscar and Otis and cats, Kitty Boy and Skinny.
He is survived by his loving partner Tammy J. Klein. His siblings Eileen, Janet (Bruce) and Tom (Lisa); Tammy’s sister Brenda, her step-siblings Paul (Valerie) and Luann (David) ; his nieces and nephews Colby (Alysia), Jill (Logan), Jared (Tia), Darcie, Stacy (Greg) and Christina (Byron); Tammy’s nieces and nephews; Heather (Bryant), Doug (Brian), Anastasia (Jack), and Alyssa Jean who looked at Phil as a father figure. As well as several great nieces and nephews, and his beloved friends Dominica and Chuck and their newborn C5, who were like family to him.
The impact of Phil’s death has echoed through the community, with the many people he touched feeling the sudden loss of someone they considered a friend, a brother, uncle, a father figure, and for Tammy – her everything – leaving a hole in many hearts. Those who knew Phil can take solace knowing he would want them to keep memories of him in their hearts as they continue to enjoy life and try new things, just as he did.

A celebration of Phil’s life will be held at the Enea Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, on Saturday September 20th from 1-3pm with a funeral service commencing at 3:00pm.
