PAWTUCKET - Celeste L. Martins, "VoVo" 82 passed away on Saturday in the Hope Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Providence, surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of Antero "Ted" L. Martins, they would have been married for 60 years in June.
Born in Holyoke, MA, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Lucinda (Albuquerque) Loureiro. Mrs. Martins has resided in Pawtucket for the past 57 years, previously residing in Cumberland.
She was a graduate of Cumberland High School, where she graduated as Valedictorian of her class. She earned a full scholarship to Bryant College, where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education.
Outside of work she dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, where she was the #1 spectator for all their school and personal activities.
She was a communicant of St. Teresa Church, Pawtucket, where she was very active in the 400 club and other fund raising events.
She was a business educator at Somerset High School and spent the majority of her teaching career at Dighton Rehoboth Regional High School where she also served as Chairperson of the Business Department, retiring in 1993 after 39 years of public service.
Beside her loving husband she is survived by her "three wonderful daughters"; Linda M. Silva and her husband Anthony J. Silva and Teresa Reilly and her husband Kevin Reilly all of Cumberland, Lisa Doo and her husband Derek Doo of Walpole, MA., "nine beautiful grandchildren", "five precious great-grandchildren" and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Manuel Loureiro and Cacilda Loureiro.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday at 8:30 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM in St. Teresa Child of Jesus Church, 358 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket. Burial will follow in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 PM to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to Center for Eye Research and Education, 50 Staniford Street, Suite 600 Boston, MA 02114.
