José Cálix Obituary
YORK
José C. Cálix was called home by his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 19, 2016. He was 59 years old.
José is survived by his beautiful wife, Josie Cálix, his eternal companion, with whom he shared 31 years of marriage on this earth. He is also survived by his three children, José Cecilio Cálix, III, Juan Andres Calix Danner, and Anna Lisa Haertsch. He was the grandfather to two beautiful grandsons, Panos and Robert, whom he loved dearly. He touched the lives of many people with his vibrant personality and infectious smile. He loved his family dearly and his presence in this life will be greatly missed.
Born on May 5, 1956, in El Progreso, Yoro, Honduras, C.A., he is the son of Olga Leonarda Pineda and the late José Cecilio Cálix.
He faithfully served as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission for the church in the New York, N.Y., Spanish Speaking mission from 1981-1983. He served in many church callings and most recently was serving as a member of the Columbia Branch Presidency. José was a committeeman for the York County Republican Party, as well as an executive committee member. He worked as a substitute teacher for STS, working in the York City School District. José loved nature, gardening, and flowers. He had a passion for art, music, sports, and he was an avid soccer player.
There will be a viewing on Friday, April 22, 2016, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and on Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 9 to 11 a.m. The funeral service will occur from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. All viewings and funeral services will occur at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2100 Hollywood Drive, York, PA 19403. The interment will occur directly after the funeral services at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc., York, has been entrusted with the arrangements.

I am still missing Jose and your family. We only ever got to one York High basketball game, but I fondly remember how so many people shouted out to him as we walked to find a seat in the bleachers. Mr. Calix was the best teacher I have ever had. He taught that you can never give up and to never give in to the negativity around you. He fought through each and every day with courage and kept his head held high. I know it he passed a while ago but I finally gathered the words to say. Te amo y adios Sr. Calix.

Mrs. Calix I am sorry for your lost. I still remember the time you were home schooling me and your husband was gracious enough to bring us "real" tacos and the one made with cow tongue I enjoyed the most. My prayers are with you and your family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr.Calix's family. I did not know him well, however, my children were very fond of him. My three children attend Goode K-8 and enjoyed spanish class with Mr.Calix,he made it such a fun experience that when my children play school at home my oldest daughter would pretend to be him and teach spanish class....using his accent and everything. Mr.Calix will be remember dearly.

To Josie and the Calix family, My heart is breaking for you. I love your family and I can't imagine the pain you must be experiencing. We know Jose is safe in heavenly Father's home but his absence here will leave a large hole in all of our hearts. I know Jesus suffered for our pain and loneliness when He was in the wilderness so He would be able to succor us from His own personal experience. Feel His love and trust Him. I will miss Jose!
