THORNTON, Carolyn Alderman, of Richmond, Va., passed away on January 20, 2009. She is survived by her husband, John E. Thornton Jr. "Jack"; children, Ellyn Wilmoth and husband, Eddie, all of Richmond, Katherine Dannemiller and husband, Larry of Houston, and John E. Thornton III and wife, Gina of Charlottesville; a sister, Kay Alderman King of Atlanta; and five grandchildren, Steve and Kristin Wilmoth, Curtis and Madelyn Thornton and Lauren Dannemiller. She was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, Class of 1948, Converse College, R.P.I. and Columbia University. She was a noted piano teacher and musician at Collegiate School, and privately for over 40 years. She was an active member and leader at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Bliley's - Central, 3801 Augusta Ave. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 3602 Hawthorne Ave., Richmond, Va. 23222. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the St. Thomas Endowment Fund.
