My name is Vernon, Eileen's youngest son. This is for all of the family & friends of my uncle Poe. This is a personal perspective, but I'm sure everyone can relate & you can "remember" your own stories.
"I remember"
As a child: why did everyone call you by your last name?

I remember, for awhile, you lived close by us, in a white, gravel-flat roofed house.

I remember the late 60's Pontiac GTO, with $10 on the console, "vern, if you can pick it up, it's yours." Looking in the rear view mirror watching me, as soon as I reached for it, he slammed the car in 2nd gear & popped the clutch, slamming me into the rear backseat. That was so much fun, although I never fell for that one again.

I remember the turkey shoots where you'd let me borrow your gun instead of the house gun. You seemed a little pissed when I won the pot.

I remember all of the weekends at my meemaw's (Flossie Poe) when everyone would come over & play music. Ya'll actually had enough courage to write & record it!

I remember the Christmas/holiday gatherings.

I remember when you lived in the southside next to the trucking co., where I found some Civil War bullets.
Also, that mean dog,"King."

I remember when my kids were born & I introduced them to you as my "puppies." You never forgot that one.

And, I remember the family reunion, many years ago.

Although we've lost touch over the years, I remember all of the above for very special reasons........, for you are a special person in our hearts.

Mom, this is for everyone, but for you as the oldest, especially for you.

With love,
Vern, kids & Sue

I am very sorry for your loss, Poe was a good man. I'd ask Tim,
"Where'd this car come from?", and he say Poe found it for me, or Poe had somewhere back in the woods. The world will miss him, and although it's been a long time since I've last seen him; I will miss the stories that I got to hear about him. My prayers and sympathy are with the family.

Sincerely,
Karen Colby (Furrow)
