Good night, Anne Rawles. Sweet dreams. I'll see you in my dreams - like catching your eye in sixth grade during class, or you walking up my walk or me walking up your walk, or being with the guys at a party and listening to them talk, together. Then, the "best of good buys" to Leighton, as they said at the end of the Business Report. I know you are with him, and when the geese honk and fly, I think you and he are among them. Good night, dear girl and dear wife. Your flower arrangements were always over the top! Love, Frances

Dear Cabell,
I was so sorry I could not be at the service. We were out of town. Anne Rawles fought the battle for a long time. We will all miss her. She and I always had a close connection through our love of flowers and we enjoyed sharing flower tales and ideas. We had such fun. My heart goes out to you, her girls and all of the family. Hugs, Nancy

Dear Cabell,
I was sorry to hear of your sister's passing. Sisterhood is so special (I know because I have three of them), and losing one is possibly like losing an appendage to your life. When we grow up with siblings, we of course take the situation for granted. But when we reach adulthood, that relationship takes on new and deeper meaning.
You are in my thoughts and prayers as you navitgate this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Sandy Aman

Anne Rawles and I were classmates and childhood sweethearts at the Old House Play School during the 1946-1948 timeframe. Henry George and I vied for her attention. The pre-kindergarten school was located in an old wooden house on the "Doolough Lodge" estate---the Brockenbrough property along the James River that is now called
Kanawha Trace; the school went out of existence in 1978 and the school
building was torn down after the land was sold in 1985 (the brick manor house remains there).
In 1974, on the day I married Mary
Ann Brockenbrough, our wedding reception was held at "Doolough
Lodge." We briefly lived there.
"Doolough Lodge" is located next to "Smallacres"---once the home of my paternal grandparents, Judge and
Mrs. Brockenbrough Lamb. My wife and I still own the small cottage that was part of the "Smallacres" property. That cottage is but a stone's throw from the site of the old school and I often reflect on my
time there, at "Smallacres" and at
"Doolough Lodge." Though the school and Anne Rawles are no longer there, they are evergreen in my memory.

I knew your mother for many year as a dental patient with Dr. Cios and myself at Dr. Perkinson & Associates. She was a wonderful women that I had the enjoyment of knowing for many years. I did all that I could to help her through her fear of the dentist by giving her a ring after her appointments, which she loved as her prize for being a "good girl". The world is better for her presents and the world is going to be missing a very special women with her loss. She is now with God and in a more powerful place to effect good upon this Earth we share. Love you Anne Joan

This is sad news indeed. I had the privilege of being a KA at Virginia with Leighton and watched with pleasure as his romance with Anne Rawles took hold and blossomed. She was a fine person and I extend my deepest sympathy to her daughters and her entire family. JJ and Anne Rawles were the best of the best.
