Mr. Mahanes graduated from Meriwether Lewis High School and attended Jefferson School of Commerce. He was a former member of the Civitan Club, Exchange Club and the Elks Club. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a life long member of Olivet Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon and was a member of various committees.

David is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marjorie Christine Bosserman Mahanes; and a son, Lieutenant Colonel David Lee Mahanes II and his wife, Ok, stationed at Joint Base McGuire, New Jersey, with the United States Air Force. Also surviving are two sisters, Lorraine M. Shores and her husband, Roy Edward, of Scottsville, Virginia, and Jean M. Pace and her husband, W.A., of Keswick, Virginia; a brother, Clifford B. Mahanes and his wife, Joanne, of Charlottesville; and two grandchildren, David Lee Mahanes III of Colonial Heights, Virginia, and Caitlin Shea Mahanes of Richmond, Virginia. Charles has written and shared his condolences, but I must include my thoughts...Every year at Christmas we make an applesauce cake, much like a fruitcake. Each year, for 57 years, I bring out Dave's Mother's recipe, in her handwriting, and think of Dave and how much Mrs. Mahanes' cakes have meant to us. If her recipe is lost, just contact me. I'll happily share it.
We lost touch with Dave when we moved from Charlottesville and truly regret we weren't in closer touch.
God Bless all, anne southworth

I will remember Dave as a pleasant and competent man, very honest in his auto repair business, a real gentleman. It was a pleasant experience to deal with him in his business, just as it was a pleasure to work with his wife Marge for many years at the federal center. It is always sad to lose such a high-quality person--not nearly enough people like Dave.

Marge, Davey, Casey & Lee,

My heart goes out to each of you. David fought a courageous battle and showed us all how to die with dignity.

Marge, your love and care gave David the peace to continue this journey. I have no doubt he was greeted with open arms by his mom & dad. There will definitely be a star shining brighter in the night sky now.

Please let me know if you need anything in the days and weeks to come.

Love,

Joanne

Cliff, Lorraine & Jean, I am so sorry to read about your loss. Looking, at his picture, I immediately thought of Uncle Lee. Wish I could have had more time to visit all of my Daddy's family.Retail has to be the worse choice i could have made.
We know they all are with God and that God will see each of you through this.
Love, Carolyn Sue & Dave
