Dorothy "Dot" Sheehy

Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Sheehy passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 2, 2010, at Hospice of the Piedmont in Charlottesville, Virginia. She was 87.

"Dot," the daughter of Earl E. Dix Sr. and Laura D. Dix, was a native of Freehold, New Jersey, and a 1940 graduate of Freehold High School. She attended Rider College, and began her professional career in the employ of the State Hospital at Marlboro, New Jersey.

During her years in Freehold, "Dot" was an active member of the "RoundTowners" social and civic club, and her church, the First Baptist Church on West Main Street, later working as the church secretary under the ministry of the Reverend Andy Anderson.

She left her position at the church to take over as the office manager of the family real estate and insurance business, Merritt R. Lamson Incorporated, and subsequently spent many years on the platform of the Central Jersey Bank and Trust Company, later Fleet Bank and Bank of America, in Matawan, New Jersey.

"Dot" retired to Charlottesville, Virginia in 1998.

She is survived by her brother, Earl E. Dix Jr. and her sister-in-law, Mary Frances Dix; her son, Kevin Christopher and her daughter-in-law, Rebecca Christopher, of Lexington, Kentucky; her daughter, Colette Sheehy and her son-in-law, Glen Good, of Charlottesville, Virginia, and his two children, Tim Good and Kaitlin Good; her daughter, K. Kyle Team and her son-in-law, David O. Team, of Newport Beach, California; and five grandchildren, Erin Christopher, Jarod Christopher, Ryann Sheehy, Jordan Team and Brian Team.

Friends in Virginia are asked to join in remembrance at the home of Colette Sheehy and Glen Good, 873 Caitlin Drive in Crozet, Virginia, on Sunday, September 5, 2010, from 4 until 7 p.m.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 11, 2010, at the Freeman Funeral Home, 47 East Main Street, Freehold, New Jersey. The service will be held 12 Noon and interment at Maplewood Cemetery will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
