John Guerrant was a former professor of mine when I was a resident, and later we were colleagues after I joined the faculty of the School of Medicine. John was a kind, gentle, and gentile man and an outstanding physician whom we all respected and admired. After his retirement, I worked with him at the MSV PRO. That also was an excellent experience. I know John is missed by many--family, friends, and former students, residents, and faculty colleagues.

I see that Dr. Guerrent had been working on the history of the 8th evac. Is this available to others? Since my dad was with the 8th evac and I was friends with Addie Roadcap, and have met Dr. Leavell and Dr. Drash, I've been trying to find out as much as I can about the 8th evac. My email address is [email protected] if you wouldn't mind to share.

I just became aware today. I corresponded with Dr. Guerrant for my father, in the 90's as my father was also with the 8th evac Hospital. Dr. Guerrant was a very kind, and caring man and he and my father were friends when they worked together in the 8th evac. My sympathy for your loss.

As a fellow faculty member for many years at the University of Virginia, I knew and greatly respected and admired John. He was highly esteemed by all who came under his shadaw of influence. His humble and kind spirit was evident wherever he walked. I felt his encouragement even though I was in the field of Family Medicine. B. Lewis Barnett, Jr., M. D.
