Barile Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Service - StonehamJohn R. DiMatteo, of Stoneham, formerly of Medford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 21st, 2025, with his family by his side.
John was an amazing father to his children (and spouses), Laura DiMatteo (Robert Lundin), Jessica Killilea (Ben), and John DiMatteo (Evelyn Trier), a loving grandfather to Samantha Fiske (Chris), Rebecca Kaplan, Abigail Kaplan, Caileigh Jones-DiMatteo, Lucian Trier, and Finn and Rowan Killilea, a loving great-grandfather of Ethan and Alexis, a dear brother to Joseph DiMatteo (Dodi) and Joanne Lancaster (John), and a warm and kind uncle to many many loving nieces and nephews.
John was proud of his years of employment as a computer-aided draftsman at Raytheon in Wayland, MA, and later enjoyed greeting employees at the front desk at Pfizer in Andover.
John was known by many for his connection to kite flying a passion that started with his children. A simple hobby for some, but a passion for him. He built 1000's of kites with children at after school programs, Scouts, and church events! Flying kites with his children, and later grandchildren, brought joy not only to him but to anyone passing by. He was a member of KONE (Kites Over New England) for many years.
As an adult leader for Troop 513 in Stoneham, John was nominated and became a member of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting's National Honor Society, where he served as a role model and mentor to scouts in the troop. He loved weekend camping with the troop and attending regional and national Scouting America Jamborees.
John set aside time to be with his children, always there with a camera in hand. In recent years, he found great joy watching his grandchildren do what they love. A man with a kind heart towards all his family and friends, he will be deeply missed by many who knew him.
Family and friends are kindly invited to gather and share memories of John in the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main St. (RT28) Stoneham on Friday November 7th, 2025 from 5 pm to 8 pm. Parking attendants and elevator available.
