Robert "Bob" Douglas Hardy

Robert “Bob” Douglas Hardy, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passedaway suddenly on the morning of October 22, 2025, in Layton, Utah. It just so happened to be his late mother’s birthday. What a reunion!

Bob was born on August 16, 1955, in Los Angeles, California, to Carolyn Cobia and Allen Williams Hardy. He grew up with a deep love for learning and for the beauty of the world around him — a love that would shape his life and the lives of those he touched.

On December 17, 1981, Bob married the love of his life, Jaclyn Rich, in Logan, Utah. Together they built a life filled with laughter, family, and adventure. They raised two sons, Jackson Robert Hardy and Logan Rich Hardy, who were his pride and joy. He recently welcomed his first grandchild, Ava Ray Hardy, born two months ago, who brought him tremendous joy and pride. Known as “Herr Hardy” to generations of students at Highland High School, Bob taught German with enthusiasm, humor, and heart. His students remember him for his quirky personality, quick wit, and the warmth he brought to every classroom.

Bob was endlessly curious, creative, kind, and easy to love. He had countless hobbies and interests — always learning, tinkering, and creating.

 After returning home from his mission to Düsseldorf, Germany, Bob learned to play the banjo, which awakened his love for music. He wrote many songs, including a family favorite, “Weber River,” and played in many bluegrass bands over the years, including Hawgwash, Cornhusker Road, Powder Ridge, Prairie Fire, and The Prairie Crooners.

He loved tennis and was the top player in the Weber State Big Sky Tennis Championship of 1977. When he retired from playing, he stayed up to date on all the latest matches and highest-ranked players.

Bob enjoyed making people laugh and shared his humor through many funny videos online. Justin Bieber even dueted one of the videos from his “Screaming Old Man” YouTube channel. Bob was proud of his iconic beard, which even helped him land his acting debut on the set of the LDS Church Bible Videos in Goshen, Utah. His beard became something of a trademark, especially when paired with his wire-rimmed glasses.

He spent much of his time surrounded by nature — stargazing, and fittingly, when the Lemmon Comet passed by, he took his final trip home riding on its tail. He also loved bird watching, collecting heart-shaped rocks, studying trees, fishing, and playing frisbee with his dog, Callie.

His backyard became his personal oasis — a space he lovingly created to remind him of his favorite place, his family cabin in Holladay Park.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Jaclyn; his sons, Jackson and Logan; his granddaughter, Ava; his brothers, Joel Hardy and Thomas Hardy; and his sisters, Anne Clark and June Allred.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carolyn Cobia and Allen Williams Hardy.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday October 29, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah. Family and friends may visit Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary prior to the service.

 Interment will be held at Lakeview Cemetery, Bountiful, Utah .

Bob will be remembered for his humor, creativity, and gentle spirit — for the way he saw beauty in the world, found joy in the little things, and loved his family. He will be deeply missed.
