Evelyn Wright

Evelyn L. Sandridge Wright, 93, of Waynesboro, died on Thursday, October 7, 2010, at her son's home, where she lived the past six years.

She was born on December 12, 1916, in Augusta County, a daughter of G.E. "Genie" and Amanda Marshall Sandridge.

She was a long-time member of the Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren and attended Glovier Memorial United Methodist Church. Prior to retirement she worked at DuPont, Klann Organ, and managed the Activity Center, including the snack bar, at Woodrow Wilson Rehabilatation Center. She was a graduate of New Hope High School.

Evelyn was an adoring wife, mother, grandmother,and great-grandmother, with an unselfish heart, giving her love freely to care for others.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon M. Wright, on February 16, 1984; a sister, Hazel S. Dickerson Payne; and a brother, Otis C. Sandridge.

Surviving are her daughter, Brenda E. Wright of Staunton; her son and his wife, Gary E. and Karen Wright of Waynesboro; one brother, Oliver M. Sandridge of Waynesboro; one sister, Ollie S. Via of Waynesboro; four grandchildren, Whitney P. Cook and Ashley R. Cook, AaMie E. Wright and Kascie Ellinger and her husband, Chad; two great-grandchildren, Morgan Grace Ellinger and Tripp Hudson Ellinger; nieces, Sue Ellen O'Baugh and Lois Irvine; and nephews, Ronald Via and his wife, Darlene, Donald Sandridge, Douglas Wright and his wife, Lisa, Ronald Wagner, and Tommy Wright.

A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, October 11, 2010, at Augusta Memorial Park by Pastor Chuck Wiest.

Active pallbearers will be her grandsons, Whitney and Ashley Cook, Chad Ellinger, Whity Whiteside, Tommy Craig, Ronald Via, Donald Sandridge, and David McCallister.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday, October 10, 2010, at McDow Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Waynesboro First Aid Crew, Hospice of the Shenandoah, or Glovier Memorial United Methodist Church.

The family extends its thanks to Evelyn's caregivers, Kim Craig and her daughters, Michelle, Amanda, and Trish; her previous caregiver, Charlotte Harris; and Hospice of the Shenandoah.
