Bill and Family,

I realize this is a time of great sadness. Having lost my dad just this past May 2008, I can assure you that it is also a time of great opportunity. Each and every day carry forth his memory, continue to embrace all the little things he said, he did, and he believed in. By doing so, you too will experience the joy of everlasting love.

Gerry and family,
We were in San Diego and missed the ceremony to celebrate Emmetts passing. You were wonderful neighbors and friends to me and my family and we will certainly miss him. A very kind and decent man he was.

We were shocked and saddened to hear of Emmett's passing. His spirit was so bright! Our last visit with him at Bill and Pooh's went late into the evening - filled with love and laughter.

There was an old tradition in Ireland - The Parting Glass - a toast raised to those who were leaving for other places and not returning. Ellen and I have modified that tradition to those dearly departed and raised our glasses to Emmett the other night in tribute to a lovely human being.

The first time I met Emmett was when he arrived with his son Bill and his belongings in Olympia to rent a room in my house. Bill and then Pooh became long time and dear friends, and we were able to enjoy Emmett and Gerri on their annual visits to Olympia. From the beginning Emmett grew on our family with his warm welcoming personality. We will miss him. Our prayers are with Gerri and the family during this difficult time. We rejoice in the memories that he left behind and appreciate that we were able to be part of them.

Aunt Gerry, Bill, Joe, and Maria,

I am so sorry to hear about Emmett’s sudden death. I, like you, find it hard to believe that he is gone. I loved Uncle Emmett, and I will cherish many, many fond memories of him.

In short, Uncle Emmett loved quality. He loved quality in his home, his yard, his cars, his food, his vacations . . Most of all Emmett loved quality in his family.

Unlike some people, Emmett wasn’t indulgent with his desire for quality -- in fact it was the other way around. Somehow Emmett’s love for quality is what made him so generous and giving.

Good-bye Uncle Emmett. Thank you for being such a wonderful Uncle. I’ll miss you more than I can say or even imagine. You lived your life well. It’s too bad you had to go - you weren’t quite done yet.

Best wishes to all of you in these times of sorrow.

I am so deeply saddened with this news.
I have such wonderful memories of him, as well as the entire family. At different times in my life and several moves across the country, I always enjoyed my visits with you when I was back in town. Geri, you and Emmett were always a part of my life somehow. As a small child playing with your kids and as we were growing up, and then later as an adult, always a special time for me. He certainly lived life to the fullest, every day - a lesson we should all take to heart.
Larry and I will always have such wonderful memories of the beautiful backyard party you two gave us - celebrating our wedding, with Emmett as the expert on the grill of course. The backyard was always such a beautiful place, where family and friends could always relax. I will cherish that always. Geri, you as well as your wonderful family are close in my thoughts and prayers at this time and in the days to come.
Love, from

Bob and I were so sorry to learn of the passing of Emmett. He always had a smile on his face. I remember seeing him shopping at Cub when I was there and he was having such a good time there, all by himself. I laughed because I said I loved shopping without Bob also because then I could take my time and drink coffee and eat cookie samples. He said "that's what I like to do too". I know you will miss him greatly. Emmett was a wonderful person.

We were truly blessed in our life to have known Emmett. I feel especially lucky that I got to see him every year diligently helping with the elections in Minnetonka. That way I could keep an eye on him but never really keep up with him! He has left an inspiring lifetime legacy to be followed and will be tremendously missed.
