She was preceded in death by her husband, the Reverend Reuben W. Blevins Jr.; and her beloved sister, Betty Wilhoit. She is survived by her daughter, Martha Brissette (Henry); sons, William (Malinda) and Benjamin (Guadalupe); grandchildren, Baxter, Marshall, Madeline, Roy, Ruben, Emeline, Meredith and Brian; brother, Bill Walters (Beverly); and sister, Roz Jones; and many nieces, nephews, countless friends she loved like family, including, Louis, Polly Beth and Peter. She served with dedication as the wife of a church pastor at the New Church charge, Norfolk (Epworth), Roanoke (Grace), and Westmoreland (Carmel/Coles Point). She cared for Reuben during his total disability and illness nearly a decade until his death in 1985. She taught high school chemistry at Washington and Lee High School in Westmoreland County. She worked as a child care provider and at the University of Richmond, Greenwood Memorial Gardens and Lakewood Manor. Her faith journey in the Methodist church began at Berryman and included Welbourne and Chamberlayne Heights. At Chamberlayne Heights, she kept nursery, helped in the office and was deeply involved with hosting CARITAS. She volunteered with the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, and served as president of the Richmond Chapter. She worked as an officer of election for the City of Richmond and starred in a recent educational video about absentee voting produced by the State Board of Elections.

My thoughts are with all of you. Miriam gave me a place to stay in 1987 when I was new to the country. Loving, caring, giving. A great example. I will miss her

My deepest sympathy to the family. Miriam and I worked together at the University of Richmond Police Department. We've kept in touch over the years. Miriam was my guardian angel; always there when I needed a friend or a few words of kindness or wisdom. She will be greatly missed by all who was blessed to have known her.

As friends of Mary & Betty's we enjoyed getting to know Miriam. So glad we were able to enjoy the last Easter Egg Hunt @ Mary's for Miriam, Roz & Betty when they were all together. The ladies loved it! Deepest Sympathy to you all. I know she will be missed but is now reunited with those she's loved and missed. You will all be together again.

When I first moved to Richmond, I worried about my mother in Farmville, VA. Once I met Miriam, I praised God that she was like a "mother away from home." I told Miriam I loved her then and will always love her. Through the dinners we had together along with other friends, Miriam always had jokes. We all had jokes right back at her. The work she did in and out of the country showed me I was so small when I thought I was on the straight and narrow path. Miriam should be remembered as one who provided PEACE and LOVE to ALL kinds. Thank you Miriam for giving me the opportunity to get to know you personally. God Bless your soul; and may HEAVEN smile upong you.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Miriam. We were children together in Forest Hills. We had such fun together. She was always so thoughtful and fair. After many years, I had the pleasure of seeing her at the University of Richmond, when I took one of my kids there to look. It was just like we had never had many years to separate us. You are all so blessed to have had such a wonderful person to love and guide you.
