AGNES HILL Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Nov. 18, 2009.
HILL, Agnes Weeks Kirkmyer Muhleman, beloved wife of James H. Hill of lrvington, departed this life on Sunday, November 15, 2009 after an extended illness. She was born February 26, 1922 in Richmond, daughter of the late James A. "Duke" Kirkmyer and Agnes Weeks Cunningham. She attended St. Catherine's School in Richmond from kindergarten until her graduation in 1940. She was a 1944 graduate and member of the Pi Beta Phi of Duke University. After graduating from Duke University, she was employed by IBM in Richmond. Donald K. Muhleman claimed her in marriage in 1947, until his death in 1973. Mr. Muhleman was prominent in the real estate business. They were members of First Presbyterian Church, where she was deacon and later, elder. She was a long-time member of the Country Club of Virginia, and the Tuckahoe Woman's Club. She served on an advisory board to the Juvenile Court and as assistant to the Secretary of the Virginia Senate. She was also an assistant librarian at Collegiate School for 11 years. Weeks and Jim married in 1979, attended by both their mothers and their assembled children. They celebrated their 30th anniversary in September this year. Her parents had grown up in lrvington and she had spent summers there forever, so, when Jim retired at the end of 1981, it was only natural that she would take him to the Northern Neck to become a "come-here". He had a sailboat and she had a dock, so all was well. Later, with a bigger boat, they sailed up and mostly down the east coast and all over the Bay. "I don't like sailing, I love sailing," was her mantra, which got his attention and their fondest memories. She was an active member of Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder. Surviving are her husband, James H. "Jim" Hill; her three children, Donald K. Mulhleman Jr. and wife, Jeannie, Marilyn M. Rausch and James Kirkmyer Mulhleman; a grandson, Kent Rausch, all of Richmond; two stepdaughters, Jennifer Pendleton of Bristow, Va. and Jessica Patterson of Rockville, Md.; and four stepgrandchildren; her longtime helpers and care-givers, Delores Seldon, Maria Curry and Raymond Smith. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 21, at Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church, Weems, with The Rev. Clay Macaulay officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 18, Weems, Va. 22576, or to The Steamboat Era Museum, P.O. Box 132, lrvington, Va. 22480, of which she was a founder.
