DENNIER, Cheryl Mallory, 63, of Mechanicsville, went to be with Jesus Christ on July 7, 2010. She was born in Richmond, Va., to Alston Cabell Mallory and Ruby Behymer Mallory. She attended Madison College (now James Madison University) where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1969. While at Madison, Mrs. Dennier served as a Senior Class officer, was a Senior Attendant on the May Court, and a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority. After graduation from Madison, Mrs. Dennier began a long-tenured career with Scott & Stringfellow, Inc., where she was employed for almost 40 years. Mrs. Dennier began as the administrative assistant to the firm's chairman, S. Buford Scott, and rose to the position of vice president of the firm by the time she retired in 2009. Mrs. Dennier was involved in several ways in the Greater Richmond community. She was a member of the Matoaca Junior Women's Club and chaired the National Tobacco Festival Grand Ball. Mrs. Dennier and her family attended Walnut Grove Baptist Church for several decades where she served faithfully for many years in a variety of leadership roles. She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, David R. Dennier; daughter, Blaire Dennier Ruch and son-in-law, Hunter Ruch, and their children, Courtlyn Mallory, Kiefer Alston, and Everett Hunter; daughter, Lindsey Cabell Collins and son-in-law, Michael Sean Collins. The family will receive friends at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., on Sunday, July 11, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Mechanicsville on Monday, July 12 at 11 a.m. The family would like to express their extreme gratitude for the overwhelming Christ-like love and support received from Bon Secours Hospice, the comfort-care nurses, and friends during this very difficult time. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Elk Hill Farm, P.O. Box 99, Goochland, Va. 23063, or Walnut Grove Baptist Church, 7046 Cold Harbor Road, Mechanicsville, Va. 23111.

I was at work when I missed my mom's call...after listening to the message she left, my mouth dropped. I couldn't believe what she said. "Mrs Dennier" was gone. All I could remember was growing up at Walnut Grove with Lindsey and Blair and their mom. She taught me Sunday School lessons, was there to listen to my trivial dramatazations of my school days and always one of the first to hug my family and me when we came home to visit. I will never forget the things she taught me, the laughs we had or the gorgeous smile that never seemed to fade. My heart aches when I think about it, but I know it's all part of God's plan. I couldn't imagine, I am so sorry for your loss. I love you all; you are strong. Stronger now with a new Guardian Angel...xo...oh, Lindsey. My heart is with you dear friend.

Cheryl was one of my favorite people at Madison College.Although we were in different sororities we became good friends. We lost touch over the years but am so glad that we reconnected via e-mail just a few years ago. Wish so that I could have seen her again. I know she will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched and mine was certainly one of them.

Cheryl:

You were the strongest lady I know. You were always the one who would find something good to say about everybody. You never had a negative thing to say about anything or anybody. I know you're in Gods arms breathing so much easier now. Rest in peace dear one, you will be missed by so many.

Love, Marcia Inge

For all of us, a very few people have passed through our lives we remember as truly good people. I grew up with Cheryl, went to church and all the way through high school with her. She didn't gossip, judge or preach. The way she lived and cared so much for everyone around her was her message.

Cheryl, you were my "sister" for 47 years and it was an honor and privilege to call you my friend. I never told you how proud I was of the fact that you handled your illness with so much grace and courage. You were always so perfect in my eyes. I was with you when you had many of your chemo treatments and I still remember how brave you were and that you never complained. I don’t know if I could have been so courageous in your shoes.

Please know that you will never be forgotten. I think about you all the time and still laugh about things that only we found funny. I will always look at cows with a twinkle in my eye and fondly remember all of the girlfriend lunches, dinners, weekends, etc. that we had and all of the special photos of all of us with our legs in the same direction. Much love from all of your YaYa's!!!

I am so very saddened for her family and all who knew her. She was always VERY special in many ways. I have so many fond memories from childhood forward of her and her parents. Cheryl always was one of God's special angels. Until we meet again...

When I was very small growing up in Richmond, my mother was in Women's Club with Mrs. Dennier and I met her a few times. I remember her as being very nice to my sister and me and for whatever reason we called her Tinkerbelle. I think it was something she told us about light reflecting from mirrors but I was extremely young and the memory is hazy. But despite that, all my life I have remembered the wonderfully nice lady who we called Tinkerbelle and every time I think of that memory, it makes me smile. I am so very sorry for your loss.

Cheryl was much more than a long time friend - she was Maid of Honor in my wedding - my husband and I were bridesmaid and groomsman in Cheryl and David's wedding. Cheryl had the purest and warmest heart and the soul of an angel. Her absence will be felt by many whose lives she touched. Her passing leaves a whole in our hearts. All our prayers go out to her family.
