Our beloved Carol Irene Hupp Eckardt passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 7, 2024 in Ogden, Utah surrounded by her family.

Carol was born March 29, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Paul Howard and Tekla Holmquist Hupp. She attended Davis and Bountiful High Schools and the University of Utah, completing her education at Utah State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis on Elementary Education. She also was an active member of the Chi Omega Sorority.

While attending Utah State, she met the love of her life, William Brent Eckardt. They were married, November 29, 1960, and had three children, Russ, Ryan, and Synda. Carol was sealed to Brent and her children in the Ogden Temple on December 28, 2001. During their life together, they lived in Logan, Utah, Carlin, Nevada, and Sacramento, California.

Carol taught First Grade at Parkview Elementary in Ogden and later in life worked for 15 years at Nordstrom in the Ogden City Mall, where she earned the Customer Service All-Star Award.

She loved to dance and began dancing at age seven and continued to dance into her 30s. She was known for her amazing acrobatic skills. Additionally, she was an avid golfer and not only loved the game but found and nurtured lasting friendships, also serving as President of the Ogden Golf and Country Club Ladies Golf Association.

Among her multiple and varied interests, Carol enjoyed being outdoors, walking and hiking with her friends and family. She also had a love for the arts and for many years was a season ticket holder to Ballet West and the Capitol Theater.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in numerous callings, including Young Women President, Relief Society Presidency, Relief Society instructor, Primary teacher, and on the Enrichment and Activities Committee.  In addition, she served in the Inner-City Ogden Mission at the Weber County Jail.

Carol was a wonderful, nurturing, and loving mother to her children and grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her quick wit and kind acts of service and, especially, for how she loved life and her family.

Carol is survived by her husband, William Brent Eckardt; two sons, Russell (Lisa) Eckardt and Ryan (Dena) Eckardt; and daughter, Synda (Brad) Wayment; as well as 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, James Hupp; and multiple nephews, nieces, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Tekla Hupp; her older brother, Leonard; and her twin brother, Clifford.
