Growing up in
St. Joseph, Missouri, Carolyn graduated from Central High School in 1960. She pursued further education at a finance school in
Indianapolis, Ind., completing all coursework by 1974. She felt a calling to serve her country in the United States Army, being stationed in Germany, and receiving an honorable discharge in 1976 as a SP4. Leveraging her financial education, she worked as a bookkeeper at Ft. Leavenworth. Later, she re-enlisted in the Missouri Army National Guard from 1988 to 1991. Post-discharge, she dedicated her efforts to the Department of Veterans Affairs in medical records until her retirement in 2002.
Her deep faith made her a proud member of Faith Baptist Church of Holts Summit, where she found solace in reading the Bible. Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me," was one of her favorite verses.
Carolyn cherished the outdoors, indulging her passion for trout fishing in Branson and Bennett Springs. Growing up on a farm, her love for horses led her to flag and barrel racing, riding competitions, and horse shows. Dogs were also dear to her heart. Known for her beautiful gardens with morning glories, irises, and a vegetable patch yielding juicy tomatoes. In her free time, Carolyn expressed her artistic talents through oil painting, showcasing a skill that added depth to her personality. Her keen eye for detail and passion for visual expression were evident in her work, contributing a rich dimension to her life.
Holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, were her favorites, providing precious moments for family gatherings and memory-building.
