Chester "Buster" Mathis was born on February 1, 1933 in Clay County, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Elby Mathis and Elsie Webb Mathis. He was united in marriage to his loving wife, Bertha Henson Mathis of London, Kentucky. He is also survived by six children, Sabrina Roberts of London; Charlotte Barrett and husband Mart; David Mathis and wife Donna all of Richmond, Kentucky; Terry Mathis and wife Karen of Indiana; Timothy Mathis and wife Sandra of Clay County; Danny Mathis of London; four siblings, Susan Allen of Manchester, Kentucky; Abraham Mathis, Pearl Mathis both of Allenton, Michigan; Sally Casey of Dillsboro, Indiana; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren plus a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing. He is also preceded in death by eleven siblings, Steve, Raleigh, Sam, Charlie, Willie, Jay, Hughie, Jimmie Wayne, Edna Mathis, Hazel Westerfield and Ida Mae Sandlin
Buster worked in construction and was of the Holiness faith. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Chester "Buster" Mathis departed this life surrounded by his loving family being 91 years, 3 months and 10 days of age.
The funeral service for Chester "Buster" Mathis will be conducted at 1 pm Thursday in the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with Don Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow in the Houchell Bend Cemetery in Oneida, Kentucky. The service will be live streamed and may be viewed on the Bowling Funeral Home website or Facebook page. Military honors will be conducted by DAV chapter 158 Keavy.
The family of Chester "Buster" Mathis will receive friends beginning at 5 pm Wednesday at Bowling Funeral Home.
Pallbearers: Anthony Barrett, Isaac Barrett, Darren Roberts, Ralph Smith, Bradley Brock, Danny Ray Allen, and Delbert Lee Allen.
