Dennis is also survived by two sons: Kenny (Jenny) Garland, Piqua, OH, Keith (Tracy) Garland, Piqua, OH; two daughters: Beth (Marty) Hampton, Covington, OH, Melissa (Clifton) Monsey, Brooksville, Fla.; two brothers: Ernie (Cherie) Holbrook, Urbana, OH, Ronnie (Pam) Holbrook, Urbana, OH; two sisters: Norma Grim, Urbana, OH, Violet (Pat) Shaffer, Anna, OH; two step-sisters: Judy Tipton, Springfield, OH, Becky Shearer, Urbana, OH; four grandchildren: Michael Garland, Katlyn Garland, Kaleb Monsey, Sophia Monsey; and two great-grandchildren: Jaxson and Kenzley. He was preceded in death by one brother: Jimmy Shaffer, step-father: Carl Shaffer, one step-sister: Carla Ropp, one step-brother: Edward Shaffer.
Dennis graduated from Urbana High School in 1969. He was a member of the Madison Ave. Church of God in Piqua, OH. Dennis proudly served his country from 1969-1976 in the U.S. Army. He retired from Brown Bridge in Troy, OH after working 35 years. Dennis loved going fishing, Hunting, wood working and going to races in which he was an avid Dale Earnhardt, Jr. fan. He loved his best friend a German Shephard "Zeus".
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday Sept. 30, 2021 at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua, OH with Rev. Richard Keeran officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park, Covington, OH with full military honors presented by The Veterans Elite Tribute Squad.
Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project 230 West Monroe St. Suite 200, Chicago, IL. 60606.
