Dennis Anthony Jankowski, M.D., passed away peacefully on March 22, 2024, at Baptist Health Louisville, with his family at his side. He was one week shy of his 82nd birthday.
Dennis was born on March 29, 1942, in East Vandergrift, PA, to the late John and Anna (Musala) Jankowski. After graduating from St. Vincent College and Temple University Medical School, Dennis served a medical internship at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, where he met the love of his life, Carol (Pick). Dennis and Carol would marry and spend 54+ years making life wonderful for each other and for their children and grandchildren. Dennis took 2 years before his residency to serve in the U.S. Army at a medical aid station in Vietnam. His return to the U.S. brought him to El Paso then to Albuquerque, where his good friend and future practice partner Jim McMahon suggested he interview with a certain radiology group in Louisville. Dennis would spend his entire medical career as a radiologist with X-Ray Associates of Louisville at Baptist Hospital East.
Behind a reserved countenance and dry sense of humor was a kind-hearted man who was devout in his faith and devoted to his family. A Steelers and Pirates fan by birthright, Dennis also avidly followed every team his children and grandchildren played on. He regularly rearranged his schedule at the hospital to be present for his children's games, matches, and performances. Retirement gave him the flexibility to do the same with his grandchildren, and also allowed him to spend a little more time with one of his favorite hobbies – handicapping the horses at Churchill Downs. In his later years, few things brought Dennis more joy than a dining room table surrounded by his family enjoying one of Carol's amazing meals,or watching/discussing/debating sports from the comfort of his well-worn chair in the family room. He invariably put others above himself, extending his generosity not only to his family, but also to a scholarship fund for St. Xavier High School students in need, the Wounded Warrior Project, and St. Vincent de Paul.
Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Carol; his children Jill (Joe) Donohue, Michael, Ben (Beth), Chris (Jen), and Erin (Sean) Jankowski-Bowling; his grandchildren Joe, Nate, and Matt Donohue; Alex, Sam, Anna Grace, and Patrick Jankowski; Cameron and Liam Bowling; his siblings Edmond Jankowski and Joan Strong; and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Gerard.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 26, at Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Rd, St. Matthews. The Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 am on Wednesday, March 27, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 508 Breckenridge Lane with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the St. Xavier High School Student Aid Fund, or to the Golden Arrow Center at St. Martin of Tours Church.

I worked with Dr. Jankowski at BHE. Always quiet, but easy to work with. Lots of nice memories of Dr. Jankowski. One that stands out and not work related was on a plane. Our family was headed to FL for vacation. I scanned the plane and saw Dr. Jankowski with his family. Just a few rows up, I hollered at him. When I got off the plane, he and his wife were waiting for me. I'll never forget him doing that. Such a nice man. Happy to have the honor to know and work with him.
