Donald Douglas "Doug" Opdahl

Memorial services for Doug Opdahl, of Starbuck, Minnesota, will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood, Minnesota, with Father Joe Vandeberg officiating. Visitation will be Friday, February 10, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will take place at a later date at Fron Lutheran Cemetery, rural Starbuck, Minnesota.
Donald Douglas Opdahl was born August 30, 1934 to Palmer and Helen (Streit) Opdahl at the family farm in Barsness Township, Pope County, MN. Doug was baptized at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood, MN. He attended Starbuck High School, graduating with the class of 1952. After graduation, he attended the University of Minnesota for one year and then returned home to begin farming. He met Pauline Peterson at Lakeside Ballroom where he always had a booth reserved for Saturday night. They were married June 9, 1956 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood. He continued farming the family farm that was established in 1890 until his health no longer allowed.
Doug was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Starbuck School Board and Farmers Union Board. He enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, traveling, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
Doug died on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Glenwood Retirement Village in Glenwood. He lived to 88 years.
Doug is survived by his wife of 66 years: Pauline Opdahl; five children: Greg (Diane) Opdahl of Rapid City, SD, Kathy Vetter of Cheyenne, WY, Donald (Shari) Opdahl of Starbuck, MN, JoAnn (Frank) Finkel of Lakeville, MN and Marie (Craig) Johnshoy of Brainerd, MN; 14 grandchildren: Kristy (Lonnie) Bartlett, Doug (Kristen) Opdahl, Kayla (Colton) Harrington, Gregory (Sheila) Opdahl, Justin (Tian) Vetter, Maren Vetter, Brittany (Fernando) Zamora, Bridget (Blake) Helmick, Drew Opdahl, Karl Finkel, Kaitlin Finkel, Elizabeth Finkel, Taylor (Phillip) Halvorson and Kirsten Johnshoy; two step-grandchildren: Jamie (Garrett) Whitecalfe and Gina Dennis; eight great-grandchildren: Waylon and Carter Bartlett, Shea and Braxton Opdahl, Hannah, Dayton, and Emory Harrington, and Savannah Vetter; four step-great-grandchildren: Amelia and Cameron Whitecalfe, and Aubri and Paul Gillego; and one sister, Colleen "Keenie" Bodeker of Glenwood. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in care of the arrangements for Doug.
