Dorothy Jean Carson

Dorothy (Jean) Carson 97, of Avon Lake (formerly of Elm Grove, WV) passed away peacefully Wednesday May 25, 2022 in Avon Lake, OH. Jean was born in Wheeling, WV, February 22, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Caroline (Leppla) Arkwright. She was preceded in death by her husband William (Bill) Carson. The couple shared 64 years of marriage prior to Bill's passing in 2017. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two infant sons, Richard Arkwright Carson and William Craig Carson, a brother Edwin Christy Arkwright in 1988 and a sister Helen Thelma Arkwright in 2005. Jean was a1942 graduate of Triadelphia High School and attended the Elliott School of Business. Prior to the birth of her children Jean was employed in the Credit Dept. of Wheeling Corrugating Company. Jean & Bill moved to Avon Lake Ohio in 2013 to be closer to their daughter. Jean remained active in her new community of Independence Village and especially enjoyed music programs and playing cards daily. Jean remained a lifelong member of Stone Presbyterian Church and was grateful for the calls and cards from her church family. Prior to moving she was active in the Woman's Club of Wheeling, AARP Chapter 824, Mended Hearts and was a Life Member of the Wheeling Civic Garden Center. She is survived by her son, Tom Carson of NYC, daughter Barb (Hal Wherley) of Avon Lake, Ohio, and two nieces, Donna Snider of Sterling, Virginia and Judy Dollar of Canton, Georgia. In celebration of Jean's life, family will receive friends at Kepner Funeral Home in Elm Grove on Sunday June 5 from 12 – 3 pm. Mrs. Carson will be laid to rest alongside her husband in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial Contributions can be made to Stone Presbyterian Church, 25 East Cove Avenue, Wheeling, WV 26003.
