John D. O'Neill, known affectionately as John, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Stoughton on December 30, 2023. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, John was the beloved son of John F. O'Neill of Randolph and the late Shirley M. (West). He was a cherished brother to Susan Myers of W. Wareham and predeceased by his sister Deborah O'Neill. John's playful spirit will also be dearly missed by his treasured French Bulldog, Lucy.
Raised in Randolph, John was a proud graduate of Randolph High School. He was a well-known figure in his community, having lived in Stoughton since 2017, and previously in Dorchester, Randolph, and the North End of Boston. John dedicated many years of his life working diligently as a Laborer for Isaac Blair Co. His charismatic nature shone brightly as a Bartender at the Ritz Carlton Hotel and the Oak Room at the Copley Plaza Hotel. Additionally, John embraced the outdoors through his work as a Commercial Clam Digger for several years.
John's life was marked by an infectious sense of humor and a friendly demeanor that drew people to him. He was the life of any gathering, always ready with a joke and a laugh, spreading joy effortlessly. His love for laughter was paralleled by his love for a good time; he could often be found enjoying himself at parties or trying his luck at the Casinos. John's zest for life was a beacon of light for all who knew him.
Those who knew John would describe him as a man who lived life to the fullest, with a smile that could light up a room. He was funny and friendly, a friend to many who had the unique ability to make everyone feel like someone special. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a better place... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." John embodied this sentiment, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
John's memory will be carried forward by his devoted father, his loving sister, and the countless friends and acquaintances whose lives he touched. His legacy of laughter and friendship will live on, a testament to the man who never missed an opportunity to bring happiness to others. John D. O'Neill may have left this world, but his spirit will continue to inspire love and joy in the lives of those he left behind.
A Celebration of John's life will be held at a later time and date to be announced.
