LEXINGTON – John Edward Whaley, 58, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 15, 2023 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. John was born on November 24, 1964 in Chile, South America to James and Betty Sapp Whaley. John was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend to many. He was a career Electrician, exemplifying dependability and knowledge in his work. John pursued his compassion for serving the Lord by attending Vintage Bible College and shared his ministry with his church, local prisons and nursing homes. He was greatly warmed by bringing people closer to the Lord.

John loved deep sea fishing – actively participating as First Mate in many King Mackerel Tournaments for over 24 years. He was also a huge Nascar fan, but most of all, loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca Whaley.

Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Elizabeth Whaley; daughter, Heather Whaley-Bennett (Tym); son, John Michael Whaley (Jessie Lynn); three grandchildren, Tymothy, Jordyn, and Madyson Bennett; two brothers, Ron Whaley and Tom Whaley; nieces and nephews, Jamie Whaley, Christy Sparks, and Gabriel Whaley; great nieces, Alexia and Maleah; a great nephew, Lincoln; sisters-in-law, Barbara Whaley, and Charlotte Hutchens; and a special granddog, “Xman Xavier”.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 18, 2023 at Place of Praise – Lexington. The family will receive friends from 11:30 – 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church in Kernersville at 3:00 p.m.
