Linda Ladell Cayce Hasting of
Georgetown, Texas, passed away on July 8, 2023. Linda was born July 28, 1940 to Claudis Hopkins Cayce, Jr. and Bealit Ladell Tiller Cayce in
Thornton, Arkansas. After graduating from Fair Park High School in
Shreveport, Louisiana, she attended San Antonio College. While on break she went to visit her parents who were living near Tokyo, Japan. It was there she met then Major Richard "Dick" Albert Hasting.
Linda and Dick were married during a monsoon on August 31, 1963, at the chapel at Camp Zama, Japan. She quickly became a busy wife and blessed mother of three wonderful children. She balanced supporting her husband's war-time, overseas U.S. Army career with raising, loving, and caring for her children. She loved to tell the stories of moving from Tokyo to Washington DC, to
Chicago, Illinois, and overseas to Heidelberg, Germany.
In 1972, after her husband's 27 years in the Army, the family settled in Tulsa, Oklahoma near her parents' residence. Linda took the responsibility of being a mom very seriously. She encouraged her children to take risks, be adventurous, and live life to its fullest. Linda was active in her community by participating in Up with Trees, Tulsa Gardening Club, Boy Scouts, PTA, and the Tulsa Rose Society.
Linda was a passionate, tireless, and skilled gardener, taking pride in knowing her yard was twice showcased in the Living section of the Tulsa World Newspaper. She started her own landscaping business that lasted several years. Her children, active in the business, benefited greatly from learning small business acumen, along with gardening and landscape design skills that they use and greatly appreciate to this day.
In her early life, Linda had an industrious spirit. At the age of five, as reported by multiple newspapers and trade journals, Linda was "the youngest bookbinder in the nation," working in the Primitive Baptist printshop of Mrs. C.H. Cayce, her grandmother. "She picked up the art with such amazing speed that visiting paper salesmen commented on it " As her children got a little older, Linda joined the workforce in the 1970's. Her first job was in the mailroom for Shell Oil. Linda was ambitious and learned computer skills and programming. She worked her way up to become a Computer Systems Analyst working for IBM, Caterpillar, and Williams Brothers Engineering, where she retired. She broke many glass ceilings and took great pride in her professional achievements.
After retirement, Dick and Linda moved to Sun City, Texas, enjoying a new yard to design and beautify. They also traveled and spent time with their grandchildren. They attended The Worship Place in Sun City, where Linda sang in the choir.
Linda will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Claudis and Bea Cayce and her husband, Lt. Col. Dick Hasting. She is survived by her beloved children, son Richard Hasting Jr., son Marcus Hasting, and daughter Michelle Hasting, their spouses, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brother Donald Cayce and sister Donnell Stone.
A viewing is planned for Sunday, July 16, 2023 from 3-5pm at Beck Funeral Home,
Cedar Park, Texas. Funeral services will be Monday, July 17 at 10am at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery,
Killeen, Texas.
