Marlo John Weitl, 87 of rural Carroll, died Monday evening, May 9, 2022, at his home.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 16, 2022, at Holy Spirit Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll. Music will be by Jane Heithoff. Lector for the Funeral Mass will be Thomas Evans. Gift Bearers will be Mrs. James (Kristina) Parker and Emma Evans. Eucharistic Ministers will be Sister Myra Weitl and Mrs. David (Mary Ann) Brincks. Casket Bearers will be Matthew Weitl, Kurt Weitl, Steven Weitl, Nicholas Weitl, Christopher Weitl, Jason Weitl, and Jim Parker. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Holy Angels Cemetery in Roselle.
Visitation will be held from 4-6p.m. on Sunday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll with a rosary at 6 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 9:30-10:15 a.m. on Monday at Holy Spirit Church.

Marlo was a son of Charles W. and Anna (Liewer) Weitl. He was born January 28, 1935, at the farm home in Eden Township, Carroll County, Iowa. He spent his younger years in the Templeton community, attending country school No.1 in Eden Township, and Sacred Heart School in Templeton, Iowa. He farmed with his dad and brothers and worked for various farmers in the community.
He was united in marriage with Almyra Emma Tiefenthaler, daughter of Conrad and Mary (Pittman) Tiefenthaler, on September 11, 1956, at St. Bernard Church, Breda, Iowa, with the Rev. Thomas Nash officiating.
The couple farmed by Roselle until their retirement. He was a former member of the Men's Club and Holy Angels Parish in Roselle until its closing and in 2019 Marlo & Almyra joined St. John Paul II Parish, Holy Spirit Church in Carroll, Iowa.
He enjoyed tending to the yard and livestock, playing cards, and doing trivia and games at the Family Christmas.
He is survived by his wife, Almyra of 65 years, four children: Clyde (Mickey) Weitl, Templeton, Iowa, Douglas (Laurie) Weitl, Templeton, Iowa, Brian Weitl, Carroll, Iowa, Carleen (Thomas) Evans, Overland Park, Kansas; Eight Grandchildren: Matthew (Jaime) Weitl, Kurt (Bethany) Weitl, Steven Weitl, Kristina (James) Parker, Nicholas (Kathryn) Weitl, Christopher (Kari) Weitl, Jason (Bliss) Weitl and Emma Evans; Seventeen Great Grandchildren: Kaden Weitl, Sarah Weitl, Nathen Weitl, Jackson Weitl, Grady Weitl, Bo Weitl, Collins Weitl, Madelynne Weitl, Clayton Weitl, Hayley Parker, Morgan Parker, Karsyn Parker, Charles Henry Weitl, Benjamin Weitl, Jacob Weitl, Adalynne Weitl, Jaxon Weitl
Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Gaylord (Arlene) Stangl, Carroll, Iowa, Sister Myra Weitl, Dubuque, Iowa, one brother, Norbert Weitl, Carroll, Iowa, two sister – in – laws, Mrs. Richard (Ruth Ann) Weitl, York, Nebraska, Mrs. Charles J. (Pat) Weitl, Templeton, Iowa, plus many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles W. & Anna (Liewer) Weitl, one sister, Nola and husband Vernon Kohorst, two brothers, Richard Weitl and Charles J. Weitl, three brother – in – laws, Gaylord Stangl, Ervil and wife Helen Tiefenthaler, Paul and wife Mary Tiefenthaler, four sister – in – laws, Evelyn and husband Norbert Ludwig, Ethel and husband Leonard Hoffman, Rose Marie and husband John Hoffman, Ruth and husband Alphons (Bud) Brincks, and his parents – in – law, Conrad and Mary (Pittman) Tiefenthaler.
