Mary Edwina Alford Hammond, age 84, passed from this life Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at North Okaloosa Medical Center in Crestview, Florida. She was born March 6, 1938 in Lakeland, Florida, to the late Lowery L. "Doc" Alford and Alma Irene Jordan Alford. She graduated from Ponce de Leon High School in 1957. When not working, she enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Edwina loved traveling, shopping, and being surrounded by those she knew and loved. She never met a stranger, was a true friend to all, and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Alvin Alford and Clyde Alford; and daughter-in-law, Sheila Hammond.
Edwina is survived by her husband of 63 years, Emory Hammond; children, William "Bill" Hammond, Winona Carol Hammond Richardson and husband Steve, and Robert "Bob" Hammond and wife Tanya; grandchildren, Jaretta Hammond Hoglo and husband J.D., Robert "Wes" Richardson, Justin Hammond and wife Heather, Jimmie Beth Hammond, Devin Richardson and husband Carl Douglass, Kaleb Teal, Katelyn Teal, and Jayson Hammond; great-grandchildren, Kaylie Hoglo, Colton Hoglo, Talan Hammond, Jada Fretwell, and Hoyt Rushing; and many special friends and a host of extended family near and far.
