, 82, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, September 21, 2023. He was born in
Newton, Kansas on February 17, 1941, to Gordon E. and Gladys V. Bailey McKean.
In the loving memory of Michael, we celebrate a life that touched the hearts of many. Michael's educational journey began at the University of Colorado, where he embarked on his educational path, eventually earning a bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Wichita State University in 1965. In that same year, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the Army as a second lieutenant, a duty he performed honorably until his honorable discharge in 1967, finally completing his reserve service in 1971. Michael later earned his certificate for Professional Engineering and a master's degree in civil engineering from the University of Arlington. He spent his engineering career working for General Dynamics, the City of Fort Worth, as a Hood County Street Superintendent, as well as a Granbury City Engineer.
But perhaps one of the most beautiful chapters of Michael's life was written in the love story he shared with his beloved Darlene. Their union on June 4, 1961, was the start of an incredible journey that spanned an incredible 62 years. Michael was not only a loving husband but also a devoted Christian who wished for all those around him to find the same peace and faith that he held in his heart.
Michael's commitment to his faith extended deeply into his community, where he played an active role at Lakeside Baptist in Granbury. He served as a deacon, and a welcoming usher, and was involved in every facet of church life. He lent his expertise to financial matters, shared his wisdom as a devotional speaker, and even took the initiative to learn Hebrew. His contributions were a testament to his love for his church and the extended family he found there.
Beyond his spiritual devotion, Michael's heart overflowed with love for his family. He relished every moment spent with his loved ones, whether it was through shared adventures, travels to Scotland or Israel, or the joy of square dancing. His passion for genealogy allowed him to connect with his roots, and his affinity for furry friends found expression in the love he showered upon his dogs. In his quieter moments, he found solace in his Bible, daily devotionals, and the world of literature.
Michael leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion that will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known him. He is survived by his adoring wife, Darlene, his sons, Keith, and Brian, along with Brian's wife, Laura. His memory lives on through his beloved granddaughter, Courtney, and her children, Kayden and Brooklyn, and his grandson, Julian, along with Julian's wife, Sabrina, and their daughter, Adeline. Additionally, he is remembered by his niece, Cathy, and many other loved family members and cherished individuals whose lives were touched by his kindness.
We invite you to join us in celebrating Michael's life at the visitation, which will be held at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, September 25, 2023. A Funeral Service will follow at 10 am on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Lakeside Baptist in
