Obituary of Roy Lewis Jerde
Roy Lewis Jerde passed away at home on October 30, 2023, at the age of 83. Roy was born on September 23, 1940 in Madison, MN to Herbert and Eleanor Jerde.
Roy moved to Cloquet in 1955 and graduated from Cloquet High School in 1958. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1958-1961. He married the love of his life, Judith Ann Jerde, on July 27, 1963 and made their home in Esko. Roy was a meat cutter by trade. He ran many meat departments throughout his life, including "Jerde's Butcher Shop" from 1978-2002. He was also a licensed auctioneer who conducted multiple auctions throughout the area and eventually teaming up with "Auctions by Norby". Roy loved horses. He bought, sold, bred, and raised many quarter horses.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Jerde and Eleanor Jerde-Jania; his wife of 46 years, Judith Ann Jerde; two brothers, Jerry and Arnold; his in-laws, Frank and Leona Krocka; brother in-laws, Rodger Krocka of Texas, Michael Krocka of Duluth, Wayne Teachworth of Duluth, Gordon Doble of Cloquet and Wendell Goad of Carlton; special companion Betty Kubis.
Roy is survived by his three children Robert (Darcy), Cheryl (Curt), and Kenny "Butch". Seven grandchildren; Austin, Morgan, Logan, Nicholas, Haylie, Brittney, and Danielle; two great grandchildren, Aspen and Alexis; two sisters, Betty Doble and Ruthanne "Babe" Goad; and his horse, Joe, who Roy had for 27 years.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Celebration of Life service, Wednesday, November 15, 2023 in Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14 Street, Cloquet.
