Anyone who knew Sherm well, knew he was a collector of many things. He began his collecting early on with his father, purchasing his first motorcycle when he was 10 years old. Triumphs, Harleys, and Indians were his passion. He built many motorcycles in his early years. Sherm loved riding, with his buddies, and sons. He loved long rides and enjoyed many.
He was an avid gun collector, which was another interest he shared with his dad. Sherm served as President of the Ohio Gun Collectors Association from November 2020 to present. Sherm was a past President of The Solon Gun Club. He maintained membership with numerous gun collecting clubs, across the country. He was a lifetime benefactor member of the NRA.
Sherm was a simple family man. He liked nothing more than to have a house full of his children, and grandchildren. He spent hours on end playing with grandchildren and teaching them all he could. He also enjoyed bird watching and had numerous feeders.

Kirkland IV, and David (Cindy) Kirkland; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Crosbie, Hunter Senita, Stefany Hodgekin, Andrew Kirkland, Aubrey Kirkland, Sherman Kirkland V, Liam Yeager, Madelyn Kirkland; great grandson, Harley Robert Hines; siblings, sister Cynthia Snyder, and brother Daniel (Katie) Kirkland; brother in laws, David (Robin) Parker of Berkey, Ohio, and Jeff (Peggy) Parker, of Cape Coral Florida, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Ron Kirkland, and nephew, Bobby Hotchkiss. He was also proceeded in death by many aunts and uncles, that he cherished dearly.
The family would like to extend extreme appreciation to Dr Abas, Dr Peng, the nursing staff, and the staff at the ICU unit at UH Geauga Medical Center. Their care, and comfort was beyond anything our family could have ever imagined.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, January 10, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-9 PM, at Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Ave., Painesville, Ohio 44077. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Foundation to Fight H-ABC at www.h-abc.org. These donations will assist in research for a genetic condition that Sherm's youngest granddaughter, (his "sweetie"), Madelyn has. It is a very rare condition.
