William "Bill" Epstein, 90, died Saturday, November 11th at home with his family in Anderson, SC.
He was preceded in death by his parents Murray Epstein and Irene Goldstein Epstein and his brother Mervyn Louis Epstein
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Wanderman Epstein; children Guy (Rea), Steve (Nancy), Mervyn (Mary), Julie (John) Baker; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; sister Iris Adler and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was born April 25, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from Forest Hills High School in 1951 and attended the Fashion Institute of Technology, where he received an Associate Degree in Production Engineering.
He moved to Iva, SC in 1953 where he was President and CEO of Iva Manufacturing and its five subsidiaries. He also had success in real estate and numerous entrepreneurial ventures.
He found great joy in flying, which he did for 71 years, hanging up his wings in 2019 at age 86. He received the FAA Master Pilot Award for 50 years of safety. Together, he and his wife visited all 50 states and seven continents.
He was an active member of Temple B'Nai Israel and belonged to Boy Scouts, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Young Presidents Organization, served on several other boards, and was instrumental in creating "a field of dreams" in Iva, SC for night softball and baseball.
He was always in the forefront of change. He hired specially challenged employees, promoted walking clubs, provided counselling and medical testing for his employees. He always believed in integrating the workforce. Bill made a difference in many lives.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends at the mortuary following the service.
