Sandra Kay Howells, loving wife and mother of four children, passed peacefully on July 2, 2021 in her home in Estero Florida, at the age of 81. Sandy, as she was known by all her family and friends, was born on July 25, 1939, to Ed and Mary Ward in Anderson, IN. On June 16, 1957, she was married to Ora Stephenson. Together they raised three sons, Rick, Todd, and Greg and one daughter, Lora. As Sandy's children all reached school age Sandy embarked upon her career in the Anderson public school system, where she touched the lives of many children and families in Anderson. Although she graduated in the first graduating class (1957) of the former Madison Heights High School, she eventually retired from the administration of the Athletic Department at Anderson High School as a diehard Anderson Indian fan. Her husband Ora passed away in 1994 and she remarried Alan Howells in 1998. Alan and Sandy moved to Estero, Florida, in 2001. She was an active member of the Coconut Shores community, the Bonita Springs-Estero Elks Lodge, and attended St. Leo Catholic Church in Bonita Springs. Sandy was preceded in death by both of her parents, Estle "Ed" Cowell Ward and Mary Isabel (Beamer) Ward; her husbands, Ora and Alan; her daughter Lora Stephenson; and her brother James Ward. Sandy is survived by her three sons, Rick Stephenson, Todd (Lisa) Stephenson, & Greg (Kim) Stephenson; her brothers, Tom (Kim) Ward and Ed (Cathy) Ward; and her sisters, Becky (David) Libler, Ann (Jeffrey Kent) Fisher, and Mary Beth (Mark) Hittle. Sandy was the proud grandmother to eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. Services to commemorate her death will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church located at 1115 Pearl St., Anderson IN on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Donations can be sent to Hope Hospice: Donate Now - Hope Healthcare https://www.hopehcs.org
