Today is Friday Oct. 11th, 2024, and I woke up thinking about Mr.Crockett. I grew up in Columbus in FCCS. My father was from West Virginia too, just like Mr.Monte as I called him. I first met Mr.Crockett after my father took me down to the Detention Center, I believe on 50 E Mound St. I thought it was a horrible place, Mr.Bright was in charge of the boys. I worked in the Kitchen and was Mr.Monte's gym helper on the many visits I came through as an incorrigible child. My young life was compiled of so much drama, I didn't know to maneuver through life- especially in the detention center part of it. Once I got upstairs to the school, I believe Mr.Saunders was the teacher, and Mr.Crockett was the gym teacher, a giant of a man, WHO DID NOT PLAY! I was afraid of him and at the same time had admiration and respect for him. Mr.Monte would make us run laps and later we played basketball- or rather they played- because I didn't know how. Mr.Crockett allowed me to be his helper, I cleaned, organized and found small projects instead of playing basketball. Mr. Monte always smelled like Three Olives hair tonic, till this day I associate this scent to him. I never knew he played for the Buffalo Bills until today, Mr.Monte was a big man and looked like a giant to us. I can say on my visits to D.H, I looked forward to seeing MR.CROCKETT, pulling me out to work in the kitchen and working in the gym- it was the only time I felt safe in that environment. To read about his success and how he rose up to higher positions at FCCS, makes me smile. Also, knowing he was a member of Mt. Olivett Church makes me feel better in a way that's heart-warming. I agree with the Judge's (Daryl) Family "It feels like a giant tree has fallen" way to soon. Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) Will be a cause I donate to. In closing I want Mr.Crocketts family to know that he was always decent, fair, understanding and strict. My condolences to you and everyone who knew him. A man like Mr.Crockett deserves a park in his honor, let GOD move and have HIS way.

Paw Paw it´s been 11 years since you´ve been in a better place. I still think about the times when you would put your favorite record on the record player and watch me dance in the basement. I remember asking you to dance with me and you would get up and dance and we would laugh and have so much fun. I miss you so much and constantly think about you. Please continue to watch over me and the family. I love you!

Jared and family, I am so sorry to hear of your tremendous loss. I have known your dad since 1973 when I came to work at FCCS. Indeed he was giant of a man in providing the youth at Franklin Village structure, direction and hope for their future. Monte was like a father figure to many boys who had no father in their lives. His impact will live on forever in the many lives he touched.

I hit a homerun when I hired Monte to work in the Juvenile court. He had love for people of all ages and a special gift to work woth children in need. He moved up the ladder in the Court and I was happy to be at his retirement party. I would have been at the funeral but for my health problems. God bless Monte and his family for all the people he helped. Reired Judge John W. Hill

My deepest sympathy to Peggy and children, Ed and Stephanie. Mr. Crockett gave me my first job at Franklin Village. My late parents thought the world of Mr. Crockett and all the work he did for the youth services. You will be missed by many, but all the wonderful work you completed for this city will always be remembered, God Bless You, Bonnie Roberts-Little.

My deepest sympathies to the Crockett family. May you find comfort in knowing that our loved ones although no longer with us physically, they live on through us in our hearts and memories. I also wanted to say not only did Mr. Crockett help many children here at the County, he also helped many adults. Mr. Crockett is the reason I have been employed with Franklin County for 25+ years. He was the reason I was hired and the reason I was transferred to the Domestic Division in 1990 instead of being fired. I have always appreciated that Mr. Crockett cared enough to help me all those years ago, even though he didn't know me that well. He was tall in stature and mighty in his presence. He will be missed by a lot of people but never ever forgotten.

My sincere condolences to the family of "Crockett," especially his wife, Peggy. Thank you for sharing "Crockett" with us. As my brother, Darryl, so eloquently stated, a "tree has fallen in the village" but before it fell, its seedlings were scattered throughout the village and beyond. I am a tree that is taller and stronger because of Crockett's mentorship--he made a huge impact in my life during my many years in the "village." I will always remember him. They just don't make them like "Crockett", the late Pop Iverson, or Martin Burns. Men who guided you with a firm hand and kept you on the straight and narrow--men who really cared about you and your path. For whatever the circumstancs that brought so many children to the "village," for us he provided a shelter in the storm. A tree's roots take hold and grow deeper--a tree may fall but its roots remain. I am forever indebted.

Mr. Crockett was simply "The Man". He was a blessing to many youth and their sometimes frustrated parents attempting to make their way through the juvenile justice system. For decades, Mr. Crockett would guide and direct their pathways. My condolences are extended to the family & friends of this great man who will be sadly missed.

A Great tree has fallen in the village. We celebrate all homegoings as important events.Yet,this goes beyong that."Crockett," as he was affectionately know to all the children who came thru Franklin Village, was an institution of juvenile justice. He literally touched and transformed thousands upon thousands of youth. My entire line of siblings is indebted to crockett and his wife Peggy, who graciously shared him with us.Legions of children avoided many pitfalls because of Crockett's intervention and passion for his work. A great tree has fallen in the village. We love you, Crockett, "you old buzzard."

I worked with Monte at the juvenile court system and I had never seen a man have so much passion for his job and the peoples lives he touched was overwhelming to me. He touched my life tremendously in so many ways and I am going to miss him terribly. I know I will never meet a man like him because God only made one of them. May God be with your family in this time of loss, but he is going to touch heaven like he touched all here on earth.

To Peggy,Jared, and Kyra: You have my deepest sympathy regarding Monte's passing!!I remember watching him play for Buffalo Bills in the 60's and then getting to meet him when I came to Columbus was a blessing! He was the "Man" at the Juvenile Court and was a strong man and a role model that dealt with youth better than anyone I knew! He was a gentle and kind man and a great athlete and played softball together. I worked with him at the "Village" with the Neglected and Abused youth for 6 years. When he hired me, I was more than grateful. Since I left Columbus, I always stopped by to see him and Peggy! Kyra and my Daughter spent nights together as children. He was my friend and I will miss him. May he rest in peace and continued blessing's to his beautiful family!!!
