Just today, I search for David Sachen to see what became of one of my favorite teachers. While I am saddened to learn of his death, I recall vividly the vitality and energy with which he lived his life. I have thought of him often over the years and am ao grateful to have known him, ever so briefly.

I was on the St. Cecilia's choir for a number of years when I was growing up at St. John the Baptist church. Mr. Sachen was an incredible musician and I really enjoyed being on the St. Cecilia choir with him as the choirmaster. Rest in peace Mr. Sachen.

So sorry to hear about David's passing, he was a fun loving guy, sometimes goofy but to the point. My heart goes out to all his family and friend especially Kristy Poplau.

I had David as an instructor at OPHS in 66-67. A wonderful man who made the study of German language quite a bit of fun. He was the sponsor of the German Club there which a nice social group. Certainly, he will be missed by many different communities.

I was a member of St Cecilia's choir at St. Johns for many years. I remember many of the great moments and ceremonies that we participated in and at the center of all these memories is David Sachen. Always sharing his love of music, his talent of orchestrating, directing, singing and playing the organ. The choir was blessed to have such a wonderful and talented person adding that special touch to the numerous events that took place at St. Johns and through out the Strawberry Hill community and the Kansas City area. My deepest sympathies go out to David's relatives.

David was my favorite college instructor. He was my German teacher at Maple Woods Community College in 1971-72. He was well liked by all his students for his great sense of humor, an energetic and lively style of teaching, and his tough but fair testing and grading.

I sang on the St. John's Boys and Adult Choir when I was younger, so for many years David played a big part in my life. He towers in my memories of St. John's and Strawberry Hill, and I treasure those of his musicianship, pedagogy, compassion, and humor.

David was our friend and choirmaster at the Cathedral of St. Peter. He had a great talent for selecting just the right music, both traditional and modern, to match the liturgy of the special ceremony or Mass.
We will cherish the good times together relaxing on Sunday afternoons.

I was one of Herr Sachen's students during his two years at Southeast High School in 1964 All that has been said of his wonderful enthusiasm and teaching ability I echo. He was the best teacher I ever had, and I looked forward to each hour I spent in his classes. This is a loss of great magnitude.

David Sachen was my professor at Maple Woods more than 40 years ago. I remember him well as one of the best professors I ever had and as one of the most caring people I was ever fortune enough to know. His model of excellence, both in teaching and in relationships, has always been a guide to me. We are all poorer that he is no longer among us.

Now you & dad can "discuss" politics just like old times. Rest in peace.

Herr Sachen was one of my late husband's favorite teachers at OPHS in the late 60's. Bob took German all through high school and at the University of Missouri. When Mr. Sachen attended one of our class reunions Bob was so thrilled to see him again. He sounds like a true renaissance man who has influenced so many throughout his life. RIP.

I sang in the choir at St. John in grade school and then in high school. David was a great guy and a great choir director. He is probably partially responsible for my love of music and singing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He will be truly missed!

Herr Sachen was an institution in the late 60s at Oak Park High School and everyone loved his classes. He was a gifted speaker of German, with hardly any accent when he spoke and he was an animated teacher, getting the class involved in his German-only lectures, with songs and activities interspersed with the obligatory verb drills and rhymes, to help us remember the many lists of pronouns which must be memorized to learn the German cases. I loved German so much, I decided to follow in his footsteps, studying at KU and going to live inGermany for over 5 years. I now teach at Wichita State University, after experiences at 3 different universities and nearly 20 years in various high schools around the states, My friend from H.S., Kathy Keesee Gold also became a German teacher, after Mr.Sachen's enthusiasm rubbed off on her, and she taught for over 20 years at NKC High School. so, while I knew nothing of his church connection, I do know that many, many students were touched by this wonderful teacher's talent. Moege er in Frieden ruhen. In Ewigkeit,
Ihr ergebene Studentin,
Debbie Wadman

Mr Sachen pg 15 of 1965 Paseon, he also taught at Paseo High School.

David was a friend, with a devilish sense of merriment and music making. For 14 years I had the distinct priviledge of making music with him at the gold dome Cathedral in KCMO. He enhanced greatly those evening Liturgies on Sunday nights, when many came from miles around. We would occasionally get on an instrumental improvisation together during 2nd collections, one in front on piano, one in the balcony on the organ. He would throw me a curve like changing into the key of Gb. Who does THAT besides Sachen! Then we would howl about it after Mass. He was a master organist. He could make the new Ruffatti organ "sing" brilliantly. He understood the Liturgy and the integrity of its music, and by listening to him play, David helped me grow as a musician. I am eternally grateful. May he rest in the arms of God forever.
And please God, give him a HARP, not an ACCORDIAN!

Thank you my dear Uncle David for everything that you have done for me, as a child growing up in Grandmother's house with you, and for everything that you have done for the church and the community.
It is because of you that I have my appreciation for classical music!
When the pipe organ was built at St John's, I have very fond memories of spending a Saturday afternoons with just you and I in the choir loft, listening to you practice.
You will be dearly missed!

God had this brand new pipe organ just installed with thousands of pipes, hundreds of manuals, ranks stops, pedals and voices. Newly arrived Don Lipovac said 'I know just the fellow who could try this out for you.' God said 'bring him up.'

I am so sorry to hear of David's passing. I was a student of his in German for 3 years at Oak Park High School 45 years ago, and I have many fond memories of him. He was such a joyous teacher and mentor, making his classes the place to be! I have thought of him often through the years as I still use my German (albeit a bit rusty now) from time to time. My sincere condolences to his family.

I am so sorry to hear of David's passing. I grew up listening to David's magic at St John's. David was the center of every mass he played and orchestrated. One of the main reasons we went to Midnight Mass every year was to hear the music. So beautiful. The angels now have a new choirmaster. Thank you David for wonderful memories.
