Charles Stoner Obituary

Charles J. Stoner, Sr.
November 1, 1934 - March 4, 2018
Hummelstown
Charles John Stoner, Sr., departed this earth in the early morning of Sunday, March 4, 2018.
Charlie was born November 1, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY, the son of John and Helen (Riley) Stoner. Charlie grew up in Woodbury Heights, NJ, in his early years and relocated to Hershey where he attended the Milton Hershey School until his graduation in 1952. He attended two years at the former Hershey Junior College and received his degree from Shippensburg University.
Charlie enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was a graduate of the Naval Cadet Training School serving as a Navy Pilot (LTJG) for four years. A Securities Broker, Charlie worked for Morgan Stanley at his retirement.
During his time in the service Charlie married his middle school sweetheart, Shirley Ann (Gepfer) Stoner, and they remained happily married for 62 years until his passing. There are three children in the Stoner Family, Timothy Craig Stoner husband of Karin (Loffredo) Stoner, Stephanie Lynn (Stoner) Goddin and friend, Alan Thomas, and Charles John Stoner, Jr. Charlie has three grandchildren, Gordon and Abigail Stoner, children of Timothy Stoner, and Sherelyn Goddin daughter of Stephanie Goddin. Sherelyn is the fiancée of Jared Meyer.
Charlie remained close to his friends in the Milton Hershey School regularly attending school alumni functions and weekly get-togethers with the MHS "gang", which he very much enjoyed. Charlie also enjoyed casinos, horse racing, off-shore fishing and golf. He was always busy pursuing one activity or the other. At one time Charlie maintained an off-shore fishing boat in Long Beach Island, NJ. He coped bravely with a lengthy illness and passed away graciously when his illness overcame him. He remained feisty until the end. Charlie was a stout and true soul. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Graveside service with military honors will be held Friday, March 9, 2018, at 2:30 p.m. in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Those attending are asked not to arrive at the cemetery until 2:15 p.m. Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 W. Main St., Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

It can be so hard to face the first year without your loved one, but the love of family and friends can carry you through.

Hearing Charlie tell a story was always a delight! He would lean in to begin his tale, then become fully animated, arms waving as he would continue, adding humorous asides, captivating his audience...
It was my pleasure to have met Charlie Stoner and I am heartily sorry at his passing. To his family and friends: Remember and share Charlie's stories, smile, and keep him in your hearts
