Eden Hart Hackney

1941 - 2025

Eden Hart Hackney, beloved by her friends and family, passed on September 30, 2025. Eden was born in Evansville, Indiana in 1941, the daughter of Opal Orth Hart and Chester Hart, and sister to Charla and Julie Hart. She graduated from Boonsville High School and attended the University of Evansville and the University of Arizona.

Eden moved to Tucson in the early 1960s, where she met her husband, George (Gerry) E. Hackney, and they enjoyed nearly 60 years of loving marriage. They ran several businesses, including apartment rentals in Tucson, cabin rentals at Mt. Lemmon and an insurance brokerage. Skiing was a major part of Eden's life. She taught skiing at Mt. Lemmon, and was a charter member of the Mt. Lemmon's Woman Club. Among their many hobbies, Eden and Gerry traveled around the United States collecting ski area pins.

Eden loved bluegrass gospel music, and she played autoharp – often accompanying Gerry's banjo playing. For 25 years, she hosted the gospel sing-a-long at the Mt. Lemmon Folk Festival.

She cherished her family and friends, who will dearly miss her playful sense of humor and loving, generous nature. Her husband and sister Charla predeceased her, and she is survived by her sister Julie and eight nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Monday October 13th at noon at East Lawn Palms Mortuary and Cemetery in Tucson.
