John Barry Staton Sr., 80, of Owingsville passed away suddenly Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.
He was born on October 22, 1943, in Mt. Sterling to the late, Elmer Staton Sr. and Ruth Johnson Staton. 
John was the proud Owner and Operator of the Sunoco Station in Mt. Sterling for 20 years. He was known for his hard work ethic and dedication to providing exceptional service to the community he cherished.
As a United States Navy Veteran, John proudly served his country with honor and valor.
John had a passion for fishing and found solace by the water's edge. In quieter moments, he enjoyed watching educational videos that expanded his knowledge on various subjects. One of his favorite pastimes was gathering with loved ones at Golden Corral to share meals and create lasting memories. John also had a nurturing side and loved tending to his animals.However, above all else, John valued spending time with his cherished family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Staton.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 47 years, Mary Ruth Emmons Staton, his two sons; John Barry Staton Jr. (Emily) and Willie Staton (Krista), his two grandchildren, John Terry Staton and Charles "Brooks" Staton and one brother, Wes Staton all of Owingsville. 
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, October 30, 2023 in the chapel of the Michael R Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville with Pastors, Gregg Whitt, Jim Crouch and Gary Henderson officiating.
Burial will follow at the Longview Cemetery in Bethel, Kentucky. Full military rites will be conducted at the graveside by Mt. Sterling American Post No. 22.
Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville will be from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM Sunday, October 29, 2023.
Serving as pallbearers are, Jamie Goodpaster, Jed Staton, Greg Brooks, Randy Denton, Leo Smith, Doug McClain, Jeff Toy and Jeff Emmons.
Honorary pallbearers include, Kelly Carter, Allen Fay, Mark Coyle, Mike Jude, Michael Wang, Billy Staton and Charles Wesley Staton.
