Patsy Powell Obituary

Patsy Jean Powell GRAPEVINE- Patsy Jean Powell went to her rest on June 10, 2013 in Grapevine, Texas surrounded by her loving family. She was 83 years old. A Celebration of Pat's Life will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 3 p.m. in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel in Colleyville. An additional memorial service will be held in Lubbock, Texas on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at 2 p.m. at St. Luke s Methodist Church with graveside services following at the City of Lubbock Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to a charity of your choice. Patsy Jean Powell was born to Blake and Grace Liles on April 12, 1930 in San Benito, Texas. It was also in the Rio Grande Valley, in 1950, that she met and married the love of her life, Owen Goodwin Powell. Pat and Goodwin moved to Lubbock, Texas in 1951 where they became part of the community, built a business, and raised their family of 4 children. Pat was devoted to her family. They were Charter Members of St. Luke's Methodist Church in 1952. Goodwin and Pat were owners of the Paper Clip from 1965 to 1988, and Pat was President of Goodwin Powell Office Products from 1988 until 1998. In 1976 they moved to Lake Ransom Canyon, Texas. Although Pat was a flower sprung from the Rio Grande, after a lifetime on the Plains there was no truer West Texas patriot than her, and she would proudly explain to those unfamiliar with West Texas that the friendliest people on earth resided there. For many years Pat and Goodwin supported the Texas Tech Red Raiders and shared happy moments with close friends at the 45 yard line in Jones Stadium. After retiring, Pat spent her well deserved downtime at the LRC Ladies Luncheons playing Bridge and Bunko. Pat relished their home and neighbors around Powell's Point in Ransom Canyon. Above all, Pat was known for her fabulous sense of humor and her signature whip-smart wit, which will be sorely missed by all. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 63 years, Goodwin; sons, Dr. Ted B. Powell and wife Laura of Colleyville, Texas and Tracy G. Powell and wife Ellen of Boston, Mass.; daughters, Terry L. Parish and husband Ken of Denver, Colo. and Tricia Powell Emch and husband Hansjuerg of Zurich, Switzerland; beloved grandchildren, Kelly, Keri, and Kory Parish, Michaela and Ted Powell, Marek Powell, Fritz, Grace and Rose Marie Emch; three great-grandchildren, Magnolia, Dylan, and Lily; much beloved sister, Janie Groves of San Antonio, Texas; and many other dear family and friends.

Pat was one of the sweetest ladies I have ever encountered, so often giving a youngster like me encouragement. My sympathies to her loving family
