Ruth Schaefer, 92, of Pasadena, Texas, passed away on February 11, 2016.
She was born on October 5, 1923 in Henrietta, Texas to Harry and Winnie Harvey. Ruth studied music at Texas Tech. She worked on aircraft generators at Lubbock Air Base during WW II. She married Elton Schaefer and was the wife and homemaker of a farmer for 30 years in Springlake, Texas.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Earth, Texas and Trinity Baptist Church of Pasadena. She played the piano for the services at both of the churches.
On the baby grand piano in Trinity's sanctuary, she sat at the bench every Sunday morning and led the congregation on a journey back to the old hymns. Trinity had contemporary music, but they also liked to keep the old hymns alive. A born musician, Ruth's fingers would glide across the baby grand's keys as if she was playing on air. "I don't really practice, I just come and play," she would say. Sitting at the piano for half an hour, she played her own versions of hymn after hymn and even some of her own songs. She played her piano whenever she could.
It was said by all her friends she always had a friendly smile and was the sweetest lady they had ever met.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elton Schaefer; grandchild, Tara Schaefer; brother, James Harvey; and brother in law, Gordon Rogers.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth Schaefer and wife Lyndal and her sister Jo Ann Rogers.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Grand View Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will start at 1:00pm with Interment to follow at Grand View Memorial Park.

So sorry to hear about your loss. May the Bible words at Hosea 13 : 14 bring comfort to you and your family at this time.

Ruth was a wonderful neighbor. Now she is playing the piano for all the angels in heaven. I can just imagine the smile on her face when she saw her loved ones.
