Thomas Huster Obituary

Thomas Huster
May 30, 1943 - March 21, 2023
We are saddened to announce the unexpected passing of Thomas Huster at the age of 79 on March 21, 2023. Tom was killed instantly when a eucalyptus tree fell on his car during that night's storm.
Thomas Huster was born on May 30, 1943 to parents Frank and Doris Huster in New York City. He received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Michigan and masters in Tax Law at NYU. He was a long time resident of San Francisco and had recently moved to Walnut Creek. Tom had a successful legal practice in San Francisco for over 55 years, focusing on estate planning and litigation. He loved connecting with local residents and merchants wherever he hung his shingle - from Haight St. in the 70s to Clement St. in the 80s & 90's, to downtown in recent years.
He was a long time member of Olympic Club and always active in sports, as a high school wrestling champion, softball player, runner, tri-athlete, squash and tennis player, scuba diver and golfer. Those who knew him in the sports world knew how hard he worked at his sport du jour, resulting in his crowning achievement – the Olympic Club 70+ rope climbing record! He was looking forward to setting the over-80 record in a few months; all he had to do was get to the top of the rope, which he was sure to do knowing Tom.
Tom was a good friend, doting grandfather, brilliant attorney, and competitor, but what set Tom apart was his true passion for meeting people, getting to know them personally, and making friends even in adversarial settings. Tom was active in many merchant groups and won several awards for his pro bono legal work. Most of all, Tom was a true character and story teller. It can truly be said that Tom lived his best life and he will be missed by many.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Sunhi Kim, his children Elizabeth Roens and John Huster, his grandchildren, Corbin, Amelia and Cole, his great-granddaughter Twyla, and his siblings John Huster and Chris Christensen.
There will be a memorial service held from 1:00 to 3:00PM on June 3, 2023 at Creekside Grill, 1010 Stanley Dollar Drive, Walnut Creek and from 1:00 to 3:00PM on June 4, 2023 at the Olympic Club, 524 Post St, San Francisco. Contributions in memory of Tom can be made to San Francisco AIDS Foundation.

I just found out of dear Tom passing when I wanted to contact him about my brother passing. Tom was our lawyer and we had a wonderful lunch together at the Olympic Club. I will miss you Tom and hoping you are sharing a glass of wine with Ricky in the Olympic club in heaven

Tom Jr: I just saw this when thinking about the Mary Nay case from the early part of the century. So sorry to hear about this. Your Dad was a zealous advocate and a sharp man. He truly loved his work and obviously loved his family. Please accept my condolences.

I worked for Tom as a messenger for many years, and I am just learning of his passing. Today I am remembering his smile, his sense of humor and his love of music. My condolences to his family and friends.
