Virginia "Tiny" Vogel Smith was born February 14, 1919 in Climax Springs, Missouri, to parents Peter and Lena Vogel. She graduated from Missouri Valley College in 1939, and began a teaching career spanning 40 years, teaching kindergarten to high school. She married Glen Thomas Smith in 1942, and had two sons, Mark and Reed.
Virginia lived in Galveston for over 45 years, teaching, and volunteering. She loved investing and founded two investment clubs in Galveston. She served on the board of the Galveston Opera House and the Rosenberg Library. Glen and Tiny were members of the First Presbyterian Church, and active in many civic organizations.
Virginia moved to Kingwood in 2006 to be near to family, and lost a long battle with cancer on May 11, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband Glen, brothers James, John, Bob, and Richard, and sister Marie. She is survived by brother, Philip, sons, Mark and Reed and daughter-in-law Stephanie, five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the Kingwood Funeral Home, Friday, May 15 from 6-8 pm. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood at 11 am, Saturday, May 16.
Memorial donations may be made to the Rosenberg Library in Galveston, Texas, and the music ministry at the First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood, Texas.

I am so grateful to have known Ms. Smith. She was truly someone that I looked up to. I never forgot her birthday, February 14, she was the very best of Valentines. I loved to paint for her over the years, it was like painting for my Mom, I always knew she would make me feel so accomplished. The very best reward was in this last year when I ask Reed to tell me how I could talk to her. He gave me her number , we did indeed talk about former times. I feel so blessed that I was able to do this. Thanks to Laura whom I just met via FB , she allowed me to see the family photos. I know this is a typical sad day, but I bet there were great and beautiful stories to fill a void with viewa of sweet children who will always remember their beautiful Grandmother. Love, Earline Dunn

Virginia and I were teachers together many years ago. She had a wonderful gift for friendship, and has been a dear friend to me.
Virginia's students loved her. She was a favorite among them, although her standards were the highest, and she always expected their best work.
Virginia was an "encourager " of the first order. She loved to see young people succeed. She wanted EVERYONE to succeed. Her middle name could have been BOOSTER! :o)
Virginia's pretty hands were often busy with beautiful needlework gifts for her family and friends. I treasure my gifts from her,a needlework map of TEXAS showing my hometown TULIA on it, and a gingerbread man which has a prominent place every year on our Christmas tree.
I will miss Virginia and remember her always with love. She lived a beautiful life.
My deepest sympaty to all her family

Mimi was a dear soul and her bright smile will be missed. I loved it when she'd greet me with, "Hello. It's so good to see the other democrat!"

I will miss my Mimi so much. She has been a constant presence in my life, always there with kind words, wisdom and support for every endeavor. I am so grateful for all of our times shared together, conversations and memories made! Mimi was truly one of a kind and she will always have such a special place in my heart!
Mimi, I can't wait to see you again someday and until then, I hope that our family will make you proud from heaven!
